I'm so exited about this quilt. I was inspired by ksea's log cabin quilt. Any suggestions a border? I want it to be a little bit larger. Should I go with wide a border? What color would you suggest. I have also thought about using more blocks.

Thanks for looking,

Robyn

I'd use a black boarder

Wow. That is great!!!

MamaBear61 07-05-2011 04:03 PM

That is very pretty. I don't know what I would do for a border, maybe pulling your favourite colour from the brights.

Maggiemay 07-05-2011 04:04 PM

Love your quilt! I would probably look for a big print with some of those bright colors in it.

alissa 07-05-2011 04:04 PM

wow beautiful

needles3thread 07-05-2011 04:08 PM

I think a black border would be nice unless you want it
lots bigger.........then maybe also a narrow border of several
of the bright colors

DesiG 07-05-2011 04:11 PM

beautiful quilt and wonderful colors! I would use a narrow black border, followed by a slightly wider border of squares from each of the colors alternating with black squares, then a wider black border and bound in black. Or maybe even just a thin border made of the center block color between two black borders.

love the quilt....... great.

This is what I was thinking...a small black inner boarder, then a bright graphic outer boarder that compliments the brights. Floral would look okay if can't get graphic....the top is fabulously brilliant

Jazzmyn 07-05-2011 04:14 PM

Very Pretty!!

Have to agree with this idea. If you don't want to add this much, I'd vote for a solid black border.

katier825 07-05-2011 04:20 PM

That looks great! If it were mine, I'd put 2 black borders, one smaller, one larger, separated by one of the colors in the blocks. It would frame it like a piece of artwork. What I am talking about is similar to the picture in the link below, but with wider borders.

I like this idea. I had thought about a narrow black border, followed by a piano key border of the colors alternated with black, and then a wide black border.

To everyone My DH and I would like to say thanks for all your wonderful comments and encouragement while I have been working on this. This is going to be my first completed quilt. I have a few UFO's that have not been finished yet.

I would use a black border if you want it bigger. Love this quilt

MelodyWB 07-05-2011 04:25 PM

Beautiful..love the use of black..it's my signature color..I would(if u need larger) use a black inner border..your multi colors for a middle border..black as the outer border !!

New Quilter 07-05-2011 04:27 PM

I love your quilt top...as well as your quote(Disabled does not mean unable.) I have a severe hearing loss, and some people equate "deaf" with "dumb"...their loss as I am by no means "dumb"...ok...maybe a little wacky around the edges...lol...

Fabulous!! Love the bright colors!!

quilttiludrop 07-05-2011 04:30 PM

Truly stunning! I agree! Go with a narrowish black border!

nyelphaba 07-05-2011 04:31 PM

Wow!

suebee 07-05-2011 04:32 PM

WOW..this is awesome. I would definitely use black as border. Maybe the width of 2 or 3 strips (same width as all the other strips). You did a beautiful job.

Oh, also meant to say bind in black as well. :)

feline fanatic 07-05-2011 04:34 PM

This has turned out so awesome. I would do a thin black border, maybe 1" finished then do a piano key and make it as long as you want to get it up to size but I would make it maybe 3" wide of all those jewel tones. Unless you still have strips cut from your cabins then use those. The width of the piano key border would then be dependent on your strip sizes. Then I would do another thin black just to stabalize the piano key, (or you could stay stitch it) and bind it in black. I love your setting for the LC blocks. The middle part in black reminds me of a compass.

Edited to add, I didn't read any of the responses before posting so will go back and read them now. Apologies if I repeated something someone else said. OK I just went back and read and seems quite a few of us had that piano key idea. I like the idea of the squares too, alternating with the black. Great minds think alike

kateyb 07-05-2011 04:34 PM

Very pretty quilt. How about a border that is black sections with sections of piano keys in the colors you used in the main part of the quilt.

gaby4v 07-05-2011 04:35 PM

WOW!! What a pretty quilt. I would do a black border too. Maybe a thin white in between???

mim 07-05-2011 04:37 PM

that is so original !!! congratulations on a new concept for log cabin

Mim

QuiltnLady1 07-05-2011 04:50 PM

I would use a plain border, pulling a color from the quilt, but finish the points in that border. Then I would use black.

barnbum 07-05-2011 04:55 PM

That is AWESOME!! I love the dotted border. Wow! It's fun to look at!

Dollysquiltingmom 07-05-2011 04:56 PM
