Starting to make a "Stash-Buster"

A sneak peak of a quilt called Pulsar. This pattern appeared in the May/June 1994 edition of Quilt-maker magazine. I will be making 35 blocks total, with colors ranging from deep indigo to cream. Having fun finding small bits of leftover fabrics from projects going back about six years and combining them in this sparkling arrangement.

Scrappy New Year my friends!

That is stunning..post finished project, please!!

orangeroom 01-07-2013 06:08 AM

Good luck! I think you'll be amazed when you're done that your stash will still look the same! I recently made a quilt only from my stash. I used 9 yards for the top and I didn't make a dent in my stash. I'm not one of those quilters who's got rooms and rooms of stash either. Just a 6' cabinet.

nabobw 01-07-2013 06:09 AM

Your blocks look great! Isn't it fun to find and use fabrics from past projects?

I know! there really is no true Stash-buster, is there? I thought I would at least clear one fabric shelf from the cabinet, but no way is the surface of the shelf visible. This too, will use around 9 yards.

Love it! Great color choices, too. Please post the finished quilt.

Oh my goodness - I have no idea. I carefully chose six shades of cream for the background, and six shades of dark blue for the star points. The rest (all medium in value) were tossed on the floor and I use the very scientific method of going up three steps and looking down at the pile on the floor to choose. "Needs a little more pink- Ok, I will see what I have in the pink stash. Take some of those browns out of the mix...they aren't sunny enough". I know how many triangles I need, but how many of each color. The more the better in this project.

GramaLaura 01-07-2013 03:06 PM

That will be a stunning quilt. Isn't it fun to go through older quilt magazines and update the fabrics.
