I posted this recently as an EQ design and thought I'd share my progress. I went with the first option of seahorses with fish as a secondary pattern and wanted to make it as a wall hanging rather than a full size quilt so decided on 6" blocks. It will be 48" x 36" without borders - I haven't decided on borders yet, will piece the middle first! Anyway, I just cut all my strips at 1 1/4" wide and 1" wide unfinished and laid them out in cutlery trays ready to go! I'm piecing the normal way rather than PP - good practice for those accurate scant 1/4" seams!

I just read Judy Martin's book about log cabins and using trays to hold the strips. Looks like a good idea.

Your quilt is very pretty and I am impressed with the idea of using a silverware tray to store the cut strips. I have to remember that when I go to Walmart again. Get a silverware tray or two!! This is why I love the quilting board!!

You are so organized! WhenI cut my strips most of the time I can't find them in all the scarps!! You know what they say about organized people, right? An organized person is a sign of a sick mind! LOL! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Dang! Never thought of using silverware trsys to put strips in. What a great idea. I too can never find the strip I want because it is usually under a bunch of other stuff. Thaks for the idea. Your quilt will be gorgeous I'm sure of that. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

Well I pieced the first 16 blocks yesterday and put them up on the design wall then decided that the dark green in the centre of the pic of fabric didn't work. Soooo I spent all last evening doing frog stitch - ripit ripit!

Annoying but the new fabric I put in it's place looks much better. Still got all those blocks to re-piece though!  Here's a pic of my ONLY finished block with the new fabric in place. It is quite varigated from blue to green but over the whole quilt will blend nicely I think, and it ties in the darker turquoise on the outer log much better :-D

Dotsie 07-26-2011 03:42 AM

I believe everybody likes it. It is so beautiful and different.
