There is a question about stash and I thought I'd post pix since I just finished the reorganization. A while back there was a suggestion to fold material using your acrylics and it was SO easy and kind of addictive. I'm glad I finally have a grip on things. This is a good part of it, but not all. Since I'm doing the charm swap, I have a separate storage container with 3 large drawers and inserts to help divide drawers. It's a relief and a joy to be in there now.

Beautiful! I hate how my sewing area seems to like to be less than perfectly clean, it's a job I have to do ever couple of projects. Your way is pretty, and as a bonus I see a red that I have, lol just one verus your many In the Beginning Wintergraphix Eyelash White on Red. :)

beachlady 01-02-2009 06:26 PM

Beautious retro. So organized and neat. I should have a better space in a couple of weeks, as I am going to move into my office with machines and furniture. Had to hire people to help us old folks!

retrogirl02 01-02-2009 06:26 PM

It is a job, but well worth it. I feel more relaxed in my room and I have the added bonus of being able to find fabrics when I know I have them...it used to be hmmm somewhere I have the perfect fabric but all that digging was too much to bear. LOVE IT. Thanks Elizabeth A. and look at that...we're fabric twins practically. :D

retrogirl02 01-02-2009 06:27 PM

Beachlady, can't wait for you to get settled as I"m sure you can't either. I adore a fresh start.

It' must be time for us to organize. I just bought a bunch of bins and when through all my fabric. My stash isn't near as nice as yours but it's organized now, until the next project. Where did you get that wooden display box. That looks like the prfect solution! I love it. I suppose, next time, I could make my own. Nice job!
Um that's not the only organizing that's going on around here. We've been going through our garage and getting rid of things we've had for more years than I care to remember. Still have loads more to do. I need a break!!!!!!!!!!!

Quilt4u 01-03-2009 07:54 AM

Very nice.

Renee 01-03-2009 08:25 AM

You did great! My goal for this month is to get my stash organized too. You've given me some great ideas. Now I must go buy storage bins. I think it's going to be fun to go through all my fabrics.

Renee 01-03-2009 08:32 AM

I blogged about craft organization and plan to blog some more about it, I'd love to have your ideas.

You did a wonderful job, Retro, and gave all of us ideas to do something with our stashes. It all looks so organized and just looking at all the colors makes me drool.

Kara 01-03-2009 12:34 PM

If this beautiful reorganization is meant to make me green with envy...

It's working.

I keep working at hubby to help me out with building something to fit the bill. I might have to take matters into my own hands.

3incollege 01-03-2009 12:46 PM

retro- You must come and help me!! i love the way you organized your stash. What did you use for the charm squares? Are they deep bins ? I need containers that you can see the fabric and not hide it.

retrogirl02 01-03-2009 05:34 PM

You're all so kind. It was difficult at first and I didn't think I had much stash either but it is so much more fun now that I can see everything. I still have one lonesome bin that's a mess but I let the girls I teach dig through it so I may just leave it as is.
Donna, I found a 4 tier bin set at Target a while back when they were on sale....the first 2 drawers together are roughly the same size as each of the bottom drawers. I keep my ziplocks, freezer paper, heat 'n bond in the bottom drawer because there is plenty of length to it and it's pretty deep. If I want to go searching for something I can easily take out the drawer and put it on my ironing board to keep from bending over.

Renee 01-03-2009 06:16 PM

Well you inspired me! I went out and bought some closet organizers, cleaned a side in my tiny closet and sorted my tiny stash. I didn't include my Christmas fabrics, I left them in a bin (I seem to have more of those than anything else). But I'm pleased with the results and must now convince my husband that I need more stash! Thanks for the motivation.

Chele 01-03-2009 06:23 PM

Big drools here. You've done a great job organizing!

I have UFO's on hangers beside the planned projects, you can just barely see them in the above photos. Next is my shoe organizer without any shoes.

KellyPA 01-03-2009 07:51 PM

WOW amazing!!!!!!

Bevanger 01-04-2009 06:21 AM

I use to have that dream job when I worked in a quilt store several years ago. I got to play and fondle the fabrics all day long!!! :)

Renee it is not pitiful!! Remember we all had to start somewhere!!! :)

Barbm 01-04-2009 07:41 AM

actually, I see some things in there I could use.... better keep them locked up!

retrogirl02 01-04-2009 07:42 AM

Renee, I don't think it's pitiful at all. We all started somewhere. I inherited a couple of trash bags of goodies that were mostly polyester and from the 80s being really generous...I found several treasures in there and kept a good part of it until I had to make room for my own choices. You're ahead of the game! Already organized and have plenty of room to add more!!!

retrogirl02 01-04-2009 07:44 AM

I use a shoe rack also but that's where I keep all my scraps sorted until I'm ready to cut them. It has plenty of space and it's out of my way. PERFECT. I picked mine up at WalMart for less than $10 although I have seen them for much more----American Girl Catalog had one this past month for a mere $49 LOL----that's some fancy stiching on it.

Renee 01-04-2009 08:47 AM

Thank you for your kind comments, my stash may be small but I love it! I got mine at walmart too! Still trying to convince hubby that I need to build my stash! Right now I'm only buying fabric for planned projects (unless I see a real good sale, but shhh don't tell DH!)

Marcia 01-05-2009 12:54 PM

I think a lot of us like to make a fresh start in the new year--and getting organized is a great way to do it. Retro-you have been an inspiration to us all---thanks for sharing pics of your stash and your tips for getting us off of our procrastinating rear ends and into that sewing room to get it organized!! Now, let's just see how long we can keep it that way!!

Belinda 01-08-2009 01:08 PM

Looks so great, neat and organized!!! Good job

bearpaw 01-08-2009 01:14 PM

jacquemoe, it's actually supposed to be a shoe organizer...everything is a potential sewing room organizer LOL. I threw all the shoes on the floor of my closet and went mmm hmmm this should be about right. My DH saw me and followed me into the sewing room shaking his head and I didn't even see him!! It is just right!

The last time I was in my favorite LQS I noticed her beautiful wooden FQ organizer and had been thinking about it a while. When I first put it on the shelf, it sat too low so DH put 2 cement blocks just under it so it's flush with my counter top now. He's so good to me.

retrogirl02 01-09-2009 11:15 AM

Thanks Belinda and BearPaw. Now if I could just find a way to make time.....any thoughts?

My solution is hitting the lottery, then I won't have to work and can play all day!

Except it hasn't happened yet :( !
