Stella -- my Elephant Abstraction (Violet Craft pattern)

5 Attachment(s)
I guess I never posted this quilt, which I did last year. It's a pattern from Violet Craft. I used my stash for the elephant's body, and got the orange Grunge for the background. It was fun doing the paper piecing, watching Stella come into shape on my design wall, as each section was completed.

I went a little crazy with the quilting, but had fun trying out some new-to-me designs and fills.

Here's my pallette of fabrics for the body:

Thanks so much for posting your quilt. It's beautiful. I'm still working on the quilting for mine. I'm almost done with the elephant and time to decide on the background.

You failed to mention that gorgeous this quilt is 54" X 60", which (IMHO) makes it even more amazing. What's there not to love about your Stella? Great fabric choices and very impressive quilting.

Fabulous job Cat! Definitely the best I have ever seen of these quilts. I think it would be great fun to quilt one of these up with lots of fancy threads and beads so it looks like the decorated elephants from Hindu celebrations.

Amazing quilt! You did a wonderful job with it.

I have admired this pattern as it has been and shown by several other people. But, Your quilting takes your presentation of this pattern to new heights! And, I really like your orange background. Lovely.

Feline, I know exactly what you mean. I started out trying to achieve that effect of the beaded headdresses you see on elephants ... used metallic thread around the edges of her ears, and down her trunk. But I couldn't come up with a way to do more such quilting without completing with all the nice colors in her ears. Actual strings of beads might have been the answer! I never thought of that.
