Still More Fabric Boxes - One With A "Twist"!
5 Attachment(s)
Yep, you guessed it! I made some more fabric boxes. I think (well, hope! LOL!) they'll be a hit at my upcoming craft fairs. :) I'll put the link to the instructions and the measurements I used down at the bottom of this post.
First, here's the one with a "twist". I appliqued a repro vintage hankie onto the interior fabric. It gave it a fancy, lacy look. I think it would make a really cute gift basket to put baby items in. As far as the block size of this one, I just went by the size of the hankie, and added about 3/4". The hankie wasn't perfectly square, but it turned out fine nonetheless. Next, here are two sets of nesting boxes in Halloween themes. One has pumpkins, and the other is fabric with Edgar Allen Poe's "Nevermore" theme. I used Halloween buttons and coordinating buttons on the flaps. Link to the instructions: http://seaside-stitches.blogspot.com...-tutorial.html Measurements for nesting boxes: 10" = 2" corners 12" = 2-1/2" corners 14" = 3" corners Another tip: I hate hate hate hand-sewing, so I "cheated" on sewing the buttons and the flaps. :D First I used 6-strand embroidery floss and a large-eyed needle to tie the buttons onto the corners of the flaps. Simple as tying a knot. Then I used hot glue to glue down the exterior flaps. The button knots end up being between the flap and the outside of the box, so they're covered completely. The knots don't show from the inside at all. Then I used my hot glue gun and put a dab on each of the interior "wings", and glued them down. Other than tying the buttons on, there's no hand-sewing. (Did I mention how much I hate hand-sewing? LOL!) ........... Hope y'all enjoyed the pics! :) |
Very very pretty - - - and scary for Halloween. Hope you do well at your craft fair!

nicely done
Oh, so clever!!! Love the one with the hankie. Great idea!!!
Yay for you, I don't love hand sewing so the hot glue is perfect for a quick project!
Wish my phone would show your pictures!!!
Oh! There they are. So cute!!!!
Those are really cool. Like the idea of the hanky.
Lovely boxes. I think that I will also have to make some nesting ones.
Those are so cute, be prepared for a stampede at your Craft fair Booth, I bet these will go fast. I love the one with the hanky, would look great in a nursery!
Did you use batting or do you think one could use heavy duty pellon? One layer batting or two? Thanks.
Love those little nesting boxes! You did great!
Oh, how sweet your hankie box is! Thanks for the info and your helpful tips.
Great job.
Well, to answer my own question. Yes, it can be done with heavy weight (I used fusible) pellon; a little harder and a little trickier, but looks nice.
So cute! Wow!
I love them. I need to get on the ball & get mine done.
very nice, love them all, i like the hankie idea, something different and a great way to use one.
Love all of them. How much will you charge for a set? Just curious.

I love the box with the vintage hankie, so sweet. Thanks for posting the dimensions, I want to make a couple a little bigger than using the 10" square and you took the guessing out of my plans. Love the ones you made, good luck at the fair.

Hello and wow I love the orange ones. Orange is my favourite colour. They look great. We have our christmas party coming up soon. Those boxes would make a great christmas gift. Thanks for the link.
They are a nice alternative to making the coiled bowls - I'll certainly give this one a go. Many thanks for the clear tutorial. The fabric combinations help to sell this idea as well.
look at you go... they are all wonderful. Thank you for posting and sharing your photos.
Love 'em and I'll use the hankie idea since I have a ton left from another project.
Those are just great and I love your creative idea about the hot glue. The hand sewing took more time than putting it together. Love it.
Super cute! Love the one with the vintage hankie. Must try one some day.
I love them. So festive. Wish I found those buttons for my fabric boxes. Now I'm on a hunt for cuter buttons. I'm going on a shop hop Fri, so you know what I am looking for.
Love your boxes! I think those are on my "to do" list now!
Your fabric boxes are very beautiful. I hate hand sewing also. You did what I would have done. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty boxes.
Took your pattern on vacation w/2 GF's & have made 2 now. We're wondering about ideas for using these boxes. What are some uses others might suggest?
Thanks for ideas--we'll follow this thread for 3 more days! |
very nice boxes
Great job and I hope you do well at the craft fair.
Great work!!!!
You did a GREAT job.....I really like the meandering quilting vs the square lines. For the seasonal uses, I love the idea of gluing the parts rather than sewing. Thank You for sharing your ideas......
Great boxes, thanks for the instructions, guess I will have to make one, these are just too cute !
I love them all ... I think you will be going home from the craft fairs empty !!!!
My favorite is the pink one, it's so sweet!
