beloved quilt
1 Attachment(s)
Ok guys here is the pic u ask for. Now remember it went through several years of college, and several moves lol. But it has been well loved and used. It is why I make quilts. not to be put away in the closet for future generations, but to be loved and used and appreciated. Also, was my first quilt and i did not know there was a difference in material. All of the material used in this one came from Walmart, and I think there is a huge difference in the quality of material.

How well do you work with everyone looking over your shoulder? lol!!

I'd love to have a Storm at Sea myself, and love batiks, so I'm hoping to follow along with you on your adventure. Thanks for sharing your progress.
|
I know that there are so many posts and only so much time, so actually I maybe before and then "finished". But I'm sure there are plenty who would like to follow along.
|
What a beautiful choice of fabrics. I will really enjoy seeing your progress because i have always wanted to make a storm at sea quilt.

Here is the last of the Batiks cut, 104T25s and 104T25r lol . And now we can cut the lights :):):) Moving along at a good pace i think. Also a pic of all the dark Batiks together
|
What will the finish size be?
|
It will be beauty. I love your fabric selection. :-)

I also use the ziplock bags. I use all the sizes and my favorite is the 2.5 gallon. I use them to hold all the smaller bags for a project so I can just grab and go. Pattern books fit well inside the big bags too. So everything is together. I also use them for completed blocks with a thin piece of cardboard to keep them from getting wrinkled. I cover the cardboard with contact paper. I do have to keep a secret stash of bags hidden in my sewing room so they don't get used in the kitchen by DH. :)

Fur can you tell me where you found the 2.5 gallon ziplocks? I can only find the 1 gallon sized. I've asked everyone on the board but never an answer, you can private message me if it's a big secret lol

Jeri My Walmart carries them. They are usually on the bottom shelf. I have found them by both zip-lock and hefty. I have seen them in 2 gal and 2.5 gal. Good luck! Hugs |

I am loving your progress posts and excited to go on this journey with you. I have been planning a Storm at Sea but have been hesitating on the process I want to use to cut the pieces.

Storm At Sea Day 7

Ok so here is our first unit. These are made up of 1, 3 1/2 in square, from our dark fabric, and 4 hsts (made from cutting a 3 inch square in half diagonally.) In this quilt u will need 28 of these units. And here are pictures of the steps. You will see that i pin. I am a big believer in pinning. if it slips, even a smidgen. it can end up making a difference when we are ready to put the units together and make our squares. If the pictures are not clear, then just ask and I will be glad to answer any and all questions. It is the way we learn, by asking. lol and I have done lots and lots of asking and still do.

So now we have moved on to our second set of units. These are made with our darks, 2Tand 2Tr, and one light diamond. Here are the steps to making them. You will need 56 of these. If you want the template for the diamond, just message me and I will email one to you.

Thanks for the progress update. This is fun watching someone's quilt come together piece by piece in real time.
|
Love it. You are as always a great inspiration quilter.

The pictures are great, and again -- I love your fabrics.
I tried making blocks like your second set of units and when I tried to match them to other units they were all too small. I traced a template, as I remember. Any idea why? Maybe I didn't print the templates out the right size. Hey, I just thought of that! I bet that's it. It just came to me because I remember when I was doing the 2013 BOTM here the templates would not print out the right size in Chrome but hey did in Internet Explorer. |
