those blocks are a myth. nobody has scraps like that. not even you. you can tell us (whisper: where did they come from? what are they scraps of?)

i loove those blocks. can't wait to see the whole quilt.

I love it! I have some 30's scraps that would really look nice in one of these! Now I know just what to do with them. Thanks for the inspiration.

Great Chele!
I have what I call a Buq quilt (butt ugly quilt). I just used every color imaginable in the strings--yet it gets used almost every day in the wintertime!! Anyway I started with a right triangle of all the same fabric in one corner. The short sides of the triangle were about 4" long. I did some twisting and turning of the 8 1/2" blocks to give this poor thing some motion. It really depleted my stash. But now have another one growing cause I left some fabric seeds in the basement near my sewing room.

Yeah...I like it...Beautiful

Beautiful!! I've done this for table toppers, etc. What do you use for a stabilizer? I have used muslin and even fabric that I had in my stash that I didn't like (but couldn't throw away). I've also cut up pillow cases I didn't use anymore, etc.

Love your string blocks. Our Project Linus group makes string quilts using bright colors and novelty fabrics for kids. They are so much fun. With strips of novelty fabric, it becomes an "I Spy" quilt. Most of the quilts are sewn onto muslin squares--they start with a bigger square (such as 10 inches), then cut it down to the size they want (such as 9 inches). It is fun to have a bag of strips in a paper bag and just pick one strip, sew it, pick another, etc. You can use narrow strips, 2 1/2" strips or whatever you have. Very liberating.

Fantastic!

My first thought was "yummy". It looks like a wall of candy at the candy store. Good job.

Ducky 01-13-2010 01:58 PM

Looks like it would be a lot of fun to do.

I'm putting this on my list to try. I have never done string blocks. LOVE IT! And I LOVE your brights!

beckyw 01-13-2010 02:12 PM

Need to do one too. Just love the blocks

Jingle 01-13-2010 02:48 PM

It looks great and ohhh sooo bright. I don't normally use bright colors, I go more for fall or country colors. I have a book about string quilts, looked at it when I first got it and put away, haven't looked at it again. Think I will have to try this, I have a bunch of strips I've been saving for log cabins, think I may use them for one of these. Looks really pretty.
