I dont have much in white, but this inspires me and makes me want to do this, too!

BuzzinBumble 05-30-2012 08:49 AM

Isn't that amazing what a beautiful quilt all those whites and off whites will make?! It is actually fascinating to look at and see all the ways white can be done. Everyone will love that!

Ooooh I wish we lived closer to each other. Won't bore you with the story;bottom line: I can't pick colors worth a toot. Your "scraps" make my heart beat faster! I'm collecting for a scrap quilt in muted tones of green. We live in the trees and have a pond. Two of our bedroom walls are plate glass so we can lay in bed or sit on the lounge and look at the outdoors. Assuming I get it figured out, the quilt will go on our bed.

Is there some formula to to putting together the lights and darks or may I slavishly follow what you have done? I am a good technician and problem solver but no artistic talent anywhere so if you feel inclined to tell me sizes and anything else you feel germane, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for listening to my sob story.

Pat

I really just used scraps to start..had lots of strips cut from other projects where I used white on white and off whites and then I just cut more ..i varied them from 1"-2" and just used about 20 different ones..I have some whites next to each other and some off whites but over I i tried to just mix them up a bit so each would show up more...not hard at all :)
I found some of my scraps had too much yellow tone and some of the beige looked almost pinkish so i was careful to use ones that i really liked the looks of..some whites can even had a grey tone to them...

Gorgeous quilt Sue! Had to laugh though when I realized you didn't use adding machine tape. I still have a couple unused rolls just waiting!

How different! I like it. My mind is so set on using a huge variety of scraps, I would have never thought of this. Very clever.

Thanks. I found I had tons of scraps in these fabrics and that is why I did it...didn't put much of a dent in those scraps lol

I, too, was thinking this would be a great backdrop for applique work. And at the same time has it's own unique beauty.

Thanks..like all quilts ...not all styles are for everyone but I do think this is a bit more modern looking..really think it is much prettier in life than in the picture

QuiltingKrazy 06-03-2012 01:56 PM

That is a new perspective on a string quilt and I love it! It has such a calming feel just looking at it!
Well Done!

Sue Fish 06-03-2012 02:09 PM

I am in Raleigh..new here sort of.. What direction is statesville in from here?

probles 06-03-2012 03:30 PM

Wow! I love it in off whites. I did one in pinks and reds. I like it. My DD said it was too much. It is a bed sized quilt. Maybe if I had just done the throw I started out doing, it would have been better.
