String table runner and table topper
4 Attachment(s)
Here are pictures of a string table runner and table topper that I just completed, pieced to match a bargello wallhanging I made several years ago (I included a picture of it). Quilted w/C&C variegated blue, Soft & Bright batting, "Dwirling" free motion quilting. Many firsts in this. 1st string project, 1st "Y" seams (not my favorite), 1st inside corners to bind, 1st real project that I quilted on my new-to-me 15" Bailey. I love string quilts and I've been wanting to do one for awhile. A purple and green batik bargello is my next project. It will match my first log cabin quilt.

Pretty! I am a new quilter, and I am not sure what "String" means, but these are very pretty.

LOVE your work and the fabric you used! Very very nice. :)

A string quilt is comprised of different widths (I used 1" to 2" - the blocks ended up being 4" sq) of fabric stitched on a base. In this case, I used phone book pages as a base. Stitch the center "string" and then add additional "strings" on each side. Remove the paper back, then press and square up. The next string will be a lap sized quilt and I will use 8" sq blocks. You can make them scrappy or to a color theme. I know it sounds weird, but I don't like scrap quilts, but I love string quilts. Go figure.

Beautiful string runner and quilt, that table must be 7 ft long wow. Your colors and work outstanding.
|
You did wonderful work, they are so beautiful.
|
No, only 60". Just the angle of the picture. Thanks for the comments.

Scrapy quilts are my favorite and string quilts are on the top of my favorite list. You have made beautiful pieces and thanks for the "eye" candy:)
|
These are great! I love the narrow border between the string blocks and the outer floral -- very nice design punch. Your fmq is great also, and the binding looks perfect! Good job all around!!
|
I put just that 1/2" of accent on most of my quilts. I think that it adds pizzazz.

I love them! Your bargello is awesome! Did you have a pattern for the topper?
|
You did a wonderful job matching your bargello. I really like both the topper and the runner.
|
Great Job!
|
Great job on all of them!

There was a tutorial here on the QB around Valentine's day for "Red string runner tutorial". The runner is that tutorial just longer. I modified that to the table topper. The original blocks are 8", the ones for the star points are 8 1/2", to make them the same size as the other points. Here is the link to that tutorial
