Strings and more strings
 

I have been having lots of fun making string quilts from strings that were given to me by members of my guild. These will be used as community donation quilts and given either to the cancer ward at the hospital or the womens shelter. First is mostly green with half square triangles, then blues with white in the middle. Next is Bonnie Hunters Scrappy X in multicolors and the last is a rainbow string with black in the center and half neutral and half colored squares. I am currently working on a wonky log cabin with the brown and cream strings. All are beautiful and will be loved by someone lucky enough to get one. Thank you for your hard/kind work.

Well done for all four. Those strings are really addictive aren’t they. I need to tackle my bin again.

Woo love your strings! That's about all I make now as I have more scraps than anyone in their right mind should. I see all those beautiful new fabric collections and have to fight with myself to turn away. Sob sob.

I've made the first three layouts you posted, but haven't seen the fourth layout before - you inspire me! What I like about string quilts is that I can put the ugliest fabrics together and when the quilt is done they all work together beautifully.

I have an on-going string quilt project. I make one block using fabric from each quilt I make. I currently have 33 blocks. Eventually I'll have a memory quilt for some of my quilts. Unfortunately I didn't start doing this until I'd been quilting for a long time.

Your quilts are great. I especially love the last one - very different and beautiful.

I have made lots of string quilt, am working on a QAYG string quilt now. 6" squares, not doing that again. Either bigger squares or sewing batting scraps together. In the process of making string quilts I have just made more strings. Scraps never really get used up, just different colors.

judy5cents...thanks for the photos of those beautiful quilts. I'm working on a string quilt for a baby.....You've given me some alternate layouts to consider if it isn't big enough. Or, I might be able to make 2 out of what I have! Thanks for the inspiration!

Lovely quilts. I can't think of a better place to take them. When you are in the hospital, you need all the love you can get. And what says "love' better than a handmade quilt. Great job.

I also enjoy doing string quilts. So relaxing and no instructions to follow.

The last quilt was one that I saw on someone's blog and I have not seen it anywhere else. She did hers with more colors but in the same style with each row one color. Thanks for the comments, I am now the string person at my guild. It's a win-win for me as I love to piece the tops and we have a husband of a guild member who does the long arming. I get the quilts back to bind and they go to the community quilt committee for distribution.

These are all wonderful, and they will be greatly appreciated by the recipients. I especially like the last one. At first I didn't realize that the background was string pieced, because the colors of fabric were so close. That black center string really sets off the colors. Great job!
