Went to our local quilt shop - on an icy day which was supposed to be the start of a shop hop. Got to walk around and visit a lot - cause no one else was there.
One of the kits they had put together was for this strippy baby quilt. Bought it yesterday - pieced it today. I'll make this again when I need something fast. 4 varied sized strips of a novelty fabric and 7 strips of coordinating fabrics cut to 4 1/2 inch strips. This kit had 4 different fabrics for the 7 strips. Went back today and bought the sunflower fabric for the backing. Kit came with a dark pink mottled fabric to bind. They've started having a $3.99 corner at this shop. LOVE that. Bought several things and don't feel like I broke the bank. Also have rolled fat quarters for 99 cents. Got twelve of those to make another project. Went back today and got some backings from the $3.99 shelf for some Works In Progress. Fun! Today is prettier weather so the shop was full. That was fun, too - everyone was so excited about what they were doing. The baby this is for will be named Maggie Mae. Looks like a Maggie Mae quilt to me! Get this: the quilt shop owner is a sort-of friend of mine - I've known her a little bit for a long time. She tends to make fun of my "matchy-matchy" ways. THis quilt is symetrical. Of course it is! Why wouldn't it be? She insists I need to "let go". Why? I know she's teasing, but after I left it ... bothered me just a bit. I keep looking at it wondering how I could have put it together differently. The sample in the shop has the strips in order - white, yellow, pink, blue, white, yellow pink - around the novelty print. Looks great, but ... quilt police shouldn't live in the quilt shop. I know she meant absolutely nothing by it - she was busy and just acknowleding I was there. I would not make a good shop owner - too sensitive to such things, I guess. |
how cute!!
Very pretty! Thanks for sharing I'll keep this in mind for a fast quilt. The black kitten is a little cutie pie. I used to have 2 black cats.
cute

That's too cute!
It is really cute! What size did it end up? Are the strips each WOF?
sounds like a great time
I agree! It looks like Maggie Mae will feel right at home cuddled in it!! Very cute!! :D

The cute black kitten caught my eye first, they are the sweetest in my opinion, Had 1 live to 19 yo and now have an 10 yo.
Your quilt is pretty also, love the bright color, perfect for Maggie Mae, love that name also. Don't let it bother you, I love matchy - matchy too. |
THe coordinating fabrics are all width of fabric. The novelty fabric - it has little pixies on it - was not. To cut it WOF would have had little pieces of each scene of the print.
So it ended up around 42 inches wide (I had to trim to even out the strips) and about 48 inches long. I thought about adding a border, but ... decided not. Our "oreo" cat was 15 years old when she passed away last year. Took us a while to decide to commit to another one. Our dog is 10 years old, but I think she remembers her friend "Pookie" cause she sure plays with this liile one. I was concerned she'd be more territorial after being an Only Dog for over a year. |
Perfect quilt for Maggie Mae, love the name!
very cute idea
I love this quilt and also the name Maggie Mae. When is she expected to arrive?
Not due until early June so plenty of time. Feels kind of strange - this is a co-teacher, but she was also a running buddy of my daughter back in high school. Felt strange at first to have her as a co-worker, but I've gotten used to it.
darling,love the fabric.
This is such a pretty quilt....love the "Inspector In-Training" and as for the name...Maggie Mae...that's a beauty.
So cute and so is your new inspector!
Super nice....great job!!
I'm with you on making things symmetrical - it's just how I see things. I also find it hard to "break free".
Very nice. Looks like it passes inspection!
Thanks for sharing. Very cute quilt. I have a friend who has a baby due in a few weeks and I have procrastinated in making anything. This is a great idea.
