Hi everyone,

I made this lap quilt for a friend who loves doing Sudoku puzzles. There are 9 different squares in each nine patch, placed so that they each appear once in each horizontal and vertical line. I quilted the word 'sudoku' into the FMQ on the border but will give her no other clues as to the design - so the quilt itself is a puzzle. It'll be interesting to see if she gets it! :D

the word 'sudoku' in the quilting - this was the best photo I could get, it's not easy to see!

Yes, I was pleased with how it kind of gave an oldy worldy look to the whole thing. It was sent to me by a lovely lady on here a while back. :D

Thanks for all the kind comments! It was easy peasy to make - just a nine patch. Here's a link to a tute telling you how to keep track of what goes where. :D

Very nice....my boss does Sudoku every day at lunch, his bd is coming up in Dec....perhaps I'll make a wall-hanging for his office...

LucyInTheSky 10-22-2009 08:15 AM

Did you make 1 9-patch at a time? Or how did you make them to accomplish this pattern and not lose track of what goes where? I know that if I tried, I would end up with something not fully "correct" for a Sudoku since I turned this piece upside down or sumthin'

Ducky 10-22-2009 08:51 AM

I really like how yours turned out and thanks for the link, K. My son is a Sudoku freak, so now I need to dig through my stash for "guy" colors to make him one. Great idea.

You pin one each of your nine squares to a numbered piece of paper, then mark a sodoku grid with letters, check out the link to the tute I posted http://www.slideshare.net/rhodylady/...p-instructions It's really easy to follow. :D I labelled each block as I finished in the top left hand corner each time to be sure I got it the right way up, then put it in position on the design wall; but I STILL kept checking and double checking as I was joining the blocks together that the columns and rows only had one of each colour.

Thank you for the tutorial link. Great idea to label the top left corner each time!

How cool is that? We did the Suduko quilt as a program with our quilt group. They all turned out so nice and each is very different. I like the sashing you put around each of your 9 patch blocks. Can't see the quilted "Suduko" with my old eyes but how creative you are. Thanks so much for sharing. Your quilt is lovely and I'm sure your friend will cherish it.

littleone 10-22-2009 10:21 AM

K3N, so clever of you to do the game for your friend. Is it soft like it looks? You do such great work, so keep it coming.

Very pretty!

k3n 10-22-2009 11:41 PM

Thank you everyone - I'm pleased with the colours, I wanted them different enough to show the pattern but samey enough to blend. The sashing is black with tiny red and green flowers and the same fabric in the binding. Most of the fabrics were FQs i won in the mare stare poll on the board in summer. And it IS very soft and cuddly. Her house, although in France, is very English country style so I wanted to do something to fit in with that. Her sofas are a minty green colour.

I've seen this pattern done in batiks and brights and it looks fantastic, and completely different to this! I'd love to see your daughter's wall hanging 2pink, if you have a pic. :D

dglvr 10-23-2009 12:54 AM

Very nice. Like your colors.

2pink 10-23-2009 06:19 AM
