Summer at the Lake

3 Attachment(s)
I just finished this quilt up today and some of you may have seen it in progress already under a couple of threads. I started this quilt Jan 6 and have worked on it most days since to get it done...I'm not very fast. It's a 64" square quilt I found online at England Street Quilts called Summer at the Beach*. *I changed the name, as the friend I am gifting this to, lives on a lake, and it made more sense to me :o). It is a Jelly Roll quilt and I had this JR I wanted to use, Moda Southern Exposure by Laundry Basket Quilts. I quilted it on my APQS Lenni that I got at the end of October. I'm happy with how it turned out and while I wasn't excited about the Jelly Roll fabrics, they've grown on me since. Good thing, I have one more just like it! Thanks for taking a look!

I'm always surprised by how the seemingly random strips in a jelly roll come out to make a gorgeous combination such as yours. Beautiful quilting too!

PaperPrincess 02-02-2017 05:45 AM

Just stunning!!!!

twinkie 02-02-2017 06:29 AM

That is beautiful. I love it.

Kwiltr 02-02-2017 07:48 AM

Thank you everyone for your kind comments! It's a neat pattern, I'll be it a little fussy to get those seams to match, and it really makes the jelly roll shine in this case.

Like this a lot. Looks (and sounds) like a simple pattern that goes together quickly. Love all the different quilting motifs you used. This pattern would make a wonderful scrap quilt as well. Especially if you tied it all together by keeping all the light strips the same. Now my mind is wandering to the ziplock bags I have full of 2" scrap strips. Hmmmmm.

tessagin 02-02-2017 08:37 AM

Gorgeous and love your quilting!!

It would indeed make a great scrappy quilt as you said. With the JR (36 strips used I think) I added about 2.5 yards of the neutral batik. It goes together quick, except for joining the blocks as the seams do not nest as a result of the strip piecing method used. A bit tedious for me, but doable in the end :o).

Looking at some of those individual fabrics, I can see where you might not be that excited about them. However, using the pattern that you chose but especially the way you quilted it has turned it into a beauty!

cforge 02-02-2017 02:34 PM

It's beautiful. I literally just came in from purchasing fabric for this same exact quilt. Hope mine comes out as good as yours. :)

Both quilt and quilting are sew lovely. I don't think you are slow at all if you started in Jan and are done!

jmoore 02-03-2017 03:25 AM

Kwiltr, you did a fantastic job on the quilting... you must be proud of your accomplishments and improvements you have made since getting your machine in October. Had you done much longarm quilting before you bought your APQS Lenni?

Love the pattern and JR collection you used. It really is a beautiful quilt.
