Ok ladies and gents....
I put a burgundy sashing around it and I think that was a GREAT idea!
Thanks all who suggested it!

What do you think?

Monique seems to like it, so I guess that's what counts, right? :)

Terri,
This is absolutely fantastic! What a great quilt! you have made an amazing and beautiful work of art and love.

Keep it up, I want to see the finished product.

MJ

Catherine 06-22-2008 02:51 AM

that looks great..the quilt I'm working on has some sunbonnet Sue's on it
as well!

tlrnhi 06-22-2008 02:51 AM

I really do think the sashing was the answer, you agree?
I'm working on getting 3 more blocks done. Trying to NOT duplicate them, so it's going a bit slow.
But....back to the room I go!

barnbum 06-22-2008 04:02 AM

That is perfect, Terri. So far. Now, all you need is for each precious Sue to have her own mini. Just draw one out on some appropriate colored fabric, cut it out, draw on features, and sew that baby onto each square. I can't wait to see the results!

I thought of maybe putting a couple little kitties on it, but not sure WHAT animals the girls like. They don't have any pets of their own, so I decided against it.

You know what would be better??
If I had Rosie so I could make sure it looked right   ;) ;)

jacquemoe 06-22-2008 04:17 AM

Terri, you certainly are doing a wonderful job. Can't wait to see if finished.

DA Mayer 06-22-2008 04:38 AM

I wish we could all meet somewhere and say hello in person, and then pick each others brains, I think we are good as individuals, but together watch out world!

DA Mayer 06-22-2008 04:39 AM

Don't you just keep going back and looking at the quilt and saying, wow that is neat, I know my daughter and i did when we made the attic window with the dark trim.. so Classy.

Brenda Retzlaff 06-22-2008 04:44 AM

Your quilt is so sweet. Colors look PERFECT to me.

Yep...that's on the back burner at the moment.
Trying to get the nerve to cut it.

lfw045 06-22-2008 07:07 AM

LOL. That is the first and only piece of fabric that I have ever owned that I have been scared to cut.......I just don't want to mess it up

Just too pretty to leave in the store and just too pretty to cut.

quiltwoman 06-22-2008 07:16 AM

The burgundy really helps pull your eye inside your window. Great choice!

I love Sunbonnet Sue.

That little girl of mine is into EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING!
She loves to pull the pins out when I'm trying to put them IN a quilt. Naughty girl! But, I love her.....

Ok, here you go.
Now, I just have to finish off the burgandy around it and find something for the border.
The pix aren't all that great, but what do you think?

Monique checking it out again

Izy 06-22-2008 08:31 AM

Hey Terri, that burgundy sashing has made a lovely quilt..... a fantastic quilt!!

Doesn't it make the attic windows work better, well done!! :D

tlrnhi 06-22-2008 08:35 AM

Thanks!
But I have to give most of the thanks to the ones that gave me the suggestions to do the sashing.
Now, to get that finished off and start on the purple one.

Celeste 06-22-2008 09:01 AM

What a difference the purple made. It looks perfect!

beachlady 06-22-2008 09:06 AM

Looks great Terri - how much more time do you have before you leave? Gotta make me one of the Sun Bonnett/ Sam or Bill quilts. Looks like so much fun.

The Sunbonnet Sue's are going to Japan.
Not to Japanese girls. ;)
That trip will be sometime in August.
Then around Sept/Oct (i think) will be Jakarta.
Then nothing really after that. :(

She was actually trying to bite the button off the Sue. I told you she's naughty!

Ok, I'm off to bed.
Got some things I need to get done in the morning and it's already 3:15am!
Nitey nite!

Janstar 06-22-2008 09:34 AM

That did the trick Terri. It looks great! I can see the border being the pink floral in the top row middle Sue. What do you think? Can't wait to see it finished. The little gals will love them!

Marcia 06-22-2008 05:44 PM

Terri-I have been out of it lately and have just now read your 2 Sunbonnet Sue threads. What a great quilt you have made! I would never have thought to put the dark sashing around the window blocks. What great ladies we have here to help you with those suggestions. And you picked such a great color. The quilt is just adorable and I know the young lady that gets it will treasure it always. You are a great friend to their mom!

mgshaw 06-22-2008 06:57 PM

10!!!!!

mgshaw 06-22-2008 06:58 PM

(that was my dancing with the stars judge impersonation)

DA Mayer 06-22-2008 07:46 PM

Can hardly wait to see the purple one.

jbsstrawberry 06-22-2008 08:13 PM

Terri its adorable!!!! No suggestions on the borders for you, but its sooo sweet!! Ya done good kid!!

tlrnhi 06-22-2008 09:25 PM

Thanks all!
I don't have enough of that pink floral on the top to make a border. I got that fabric at Walmart a long while ago. It's nice and soft and I would use it sparingly in different quilts I made. Would love to find more of it, but there is not more :(
Maybe if I look hard enough in my stash, I might fine enough to maybe do a 2" border around the burgundy.

No one has yet to mention the purple one on the last row facing the wrong way. That was done intentionally. I will embroider the other one's name on that one in smaller letters. These 2 little girls are very close and the bond between them is awesome. I hope as they get older, the bond stays that way.

It was funny, I was talking to the mom the other day and she just blurted out...I just realized, you are the SAME age as my mom!
I wanted to reach in and strangle her! lol Yes, she is only 28. (My Lauren will be 27 this year. lol)
But, she's a good friend, sweet girl and a really good mom.
She has no clue I am making these for her girls.

LOL!! There is just nothing like youth to make you feel old!!! I am sure that she meant it in a great way-like, "you are such a great friend, I never thought about the age difference before!!"

You are a dear to make quilts for her daughters and I know all three of them are going to be very touched by your generosity and thoughtfulness.

She is a great friend. I don't think of her as younger, just that she has a bit more energy than I do. lol

The first one is almost done! Only 3 more sides to do and voila!!
