I have a client who has me create a Sunbonnet for each of her girls every 3 years with the clothing they wore during the 3 years prior. This is the picture of the first two. Embellishment, especially the hat rims, are buttons, bows, ruffles, etc., that were taken from the outfits. One little girl got a pink bordered one and the other little girl got the lavender bordered one. The second photo is from a client who lost her husband last year. Sunbonnet Sues and Fisherman Freds are appliqued out of his shirts with embellishments in the hat rims.

I recently opened a bag of fabric scraps that my deceased Mother had in the attic.... this would be perfect. She made all my clothes, so they should be around 50 yrs old.

So cute
|
Sweet, sweet quilt. Beautiful job.
|
Yes, the embroidery on the fronts of the quilts show names and dates and ages.
|
Thank you, Marti. We are so close.....almost. :)
|
Do it! Make that quilt and hang on to those memories in the way only a quilt can bring. Otherwise, it's just clothes stuck away somewhere not being used, admired or appreciated!
|
I like it.

Wow how pretty.

They are so adorable.
|
How special all of those quilts are for the owners.
And how special you are, for taking the time to dismantle and create the extra touches via the embellishments! |

I Wonder, I love your avatar crochet butterfly. It makes me think of my mother. She loved the pineapple pattern and crocheted many of them in everything from doilies to bedspreads and tablecloths. Thanks for using it. Now back to the quilts.....
Grandbysquilts, I really like your Sunbonnet Sue quilts. Very pretty. I really like the red bordered one. Great idea to use the childs ourgrown clothing like that. |
Those are darling. I hope they treasure them as they get older. I made a piggy quilt for my great niece out of the fabrics I made her clothes from. She collects piggies btw.

Adorable!
