I have had these mini sunbonnet sues around for about eight years. So, I thought maybe I would make my niece a baby doll quit to play with while she visits me. I plan on making a sunbonnet sue dolly to go with it and find a little stroller/bed (?) too. I never have anything for her to play with, so she plays in my pots and pans and kitchen utinsils. LOL!

Here is the little quilt and pillow for her. Yeah! Another ufo finished and out of the closet.

What a great little quilt! Pots and pans are fun too, but I think the quilt will be a big hit!

RedGarnet222 05-19-2009 06:01 PM

:D Thanks so much girls! Those little blue and red squares were the first thing I ever pieced together by hand some 15 years ago. I hated it and it went into a drawer until I paired it up with the sunbonnet sue. I am seriously determined to finish everything this year I have had waiting. Right down to the minaitures.

Your niece is going to love it!!! They are so cute :D :D :D

Butterfli19 05-21-2009 04:02 PM

It's great! I love the way you quilted it so simply, and added the lace and ribbon. It makes everything stand out. Lucky girl!

I love working on small things, you can finish them much quicker and spend more time on the detail because the area is smaller and they don't use as much fabric. Not that that prevents me from buying more...

RedGarnet222 05-21-2009 08:12 PM

thanks so much amma and Butterfli. Your right about the time for more details, parts of it were already made up as ufo's, LOL! She has always been the most grateful child, who wouldn't spoil her just a little?

I have four summer tops ready to make for her and I will buy her some petal pushers to go with them. Can you tell I love her? She will be four in july.

littlehud 05-21-2009 09:22 PM

That is so cute and I love your colors.

omak 05-21-2009 09:24 PM

Yep, I definitely like that sunbonnet sue quilt and pillow companion.
So proud that you are getting through your UFO/WIP ... projects.
It is so fun to see what everyone is doing ... and, I can totally identify with your "15 year" timeline.
Special little girl who knows how to entertain herself with pots and pans.
When the boy would come visit us, I had one drawer dedicated to his penchant for playing with little things. whenever I emptied a jar, I would save the lid (plastic or metal) and put them in that drawer and any other little things I would pick up while he was gone. (Ate a lot of happy meals, I want you to know <g>) Anyway, he would come in with his folks, walk over to the drawer, pull out every one of the lids and walk off to go play with something else.
When he turned two, Omakdaddy thought it was time to start getting rid of the lids. I wouldn't do it, but Omakdaddy is more determined and picked up a handful of lids and threw them into the garbage can. (Fortunately for all concerned, I had just emptied the trash, so the can was empty except for those lids). The boy comes strolling out to the kitchen and walked passed the can. He was just tall enough to be able to look in without actually stopping. I was so lucky to have been paying attention to him, because he stopped dead in his tracks and said, "MINE!" and dived in after the lids. After the lids, he got interested in wire nuts ... for YEARS we had to keep wire nuts in a special can for him. He is now fifteen, and I am betting that if I walk into his room, I will find the coffee can full of wire nuts he used to play "soldiers" with.
Aren't children fun???

Oh omak ... what a precious story! Thank you for sharing it. I can just see that little guy's face when his "toys" were thrown away. Sarah likes to play with the canning rings like that too. You should write a grandma's book about him. He sounds so sweet.

I have given her tons of toys and she takes them home. But, when my dad died last year, I took his small cast iron construction toys that he had. She plays with those too. Oh and my doll (almost as big as her) from my youth. She knows where they all are, and one by one, she has them out. She has a huge vocabulary for a three year old. And it is stunning to hear her discribe her adventures. I am very sure I was not that smart at that age. One pf the christmas presents that we gave her last christmas was a horse. Here is a pic of her.

Angie 05-22-2009 07:21 AM

I love it and the color combination is just stunning.

LindaR 05-22-2009 07:31 AM

good use of a UFO...she will love it

omak 05-22-2009 12:20 PM

What a little cutie!
At least the boy knew how to save his toys <g>.
One time, when he had been gone for a few weeks, he came back and started looking for a cow. He was ADAMANT the cow was at our house. I don't remember how many different ways he tried to tell everyone that the cow was missing and he hadn't taken it to his house. I felt so bad when his mom (DD) told him that doing without the cow was the price one pays for not taking care of your toys. (That was when I knew why God gave children to young people <g>). Anyway, I started trying to remember what was going on in the house at his last visit, and then I remembered! I had rearranged the furniture. Last time, the couch had been perpendicular to the bank of windows, but now, the couch was in front of the windows. I went over to the couch, looked down at the window sill, and there it was - - I made EVERYONE come out and see the boy get his cow <g>. It was one of those little cows from the Fisher Price Farm set? Bless his heart ... he HAD taken good care of his toys. LOL
I think it is so neat to have kids come and drag out all of the their toys ... I know you must be tired when niece goes home, but just think! All of that bending over and picking up toys will whittle your waist!
Thanks for letting me tell my stories ... I really enjoy the things I have seen and experienced .... well, most of the time <g>

The boy is now fifteen, and a foot taller than me! LOL ... and, he does have a LOT of cows now. Of course, these ones move and make messes on the slabs, but then ... he is building a lot of muscle (I keep telling him!) I told him the cow story this morning at breakfast at the Post. I will let him know you sent him a hug though ... and, thank you very much.
I'm with the other girl .... I like that quilt, too! I think it is the red, white, and blue with Sunbonnet Sue .... what a dandy combination!
