"Sunset Over Sedona" My first & probably last designed by me.

This is one I made for some friends of ours who have such a generous spirit, but are probably not on the receiving end very often. They are some who can buy for themselves anything they want. I decided I wanted to make them a quilt, but not just an ordinary quilt. No flowers & not girlie. Her heritage is Native American and she loves Sedona, so I found this panel at MSQC. I made the attic windows from the biggest part of the panel, then I used a couple other components from the panel above and below the attic windows. The other parts, i.e. Mountain Majesties are quilted with snow flakes and melting snow, flying geese going in both directions, bordered with black, which I used a variegated gray and black quilted snowflakes. The outside black border is quilted with a meander of gray and black variegated thread. I wanted to put arrows somewhere on it and my husband came up with the borders with the arrows. Above and below the arrows going up and down I fmq'd feathers. This is my first attempt at designing somewhat my own "thing". It doesn't look much like it did on paper originally. I like this one much better! But, not sure I want to do my own thing again. At least not for awhile. 😜

in making it so special.

Wow! What a GREAT design! The attic window fabrics really draw you in with the lights and dark contrast. The arrows on the border? Excellent idea. The colors are so rich and earthy--perfect for your Native American friend. I'm sure they will be beyond thrilled to receive your gift.

This is so perfect. As someone who adores Sedona, I can attest to how appropriate it is. Wonderful!!

That is fabulous. Contrary to your statement, I hope this is the first of many.

sprice 04-26-2017 05:05 AM

Lovely but I can agree, it can be exhausting to design. I love sewing simple pieces together while letting my mind wander.

That's me! Yesterday I tried making bear claw blocks and got so frustrated I gave it up. I know they are a simple 9 patch with hst's but I think my brain was tired from this one so that I didn't even want to mess with it. I think I need some mindless sewing for awhile. Lol!

feline fanatic 04-26-2017 05:13 AM

What a fabulous quilt. I think you are very good at "doing your own thing". Sure it takes a bit longer to figure it out but the results are so worth it and the best part is there is not another quilt out there like it!

jetayre 04-26-2017 05:42 AM

That is so appealing in every way.......

willferg 04-26-2017 05:48 AM

Wonderful quilt and love the arrows on the borders.

Mama Llama 04-26-2017 07:18 AM

It's an attention getter, conversation-starter, and head-stopper (as in people will stop to appreciate all the different parts). But I totally understand the need for mindless sewing for a bit. Don't give up on design, this turned out great. Let us know their reaction. :-)

LenaBeena 04-26-2017 07:24 AM

wonderful!
