From Sweetly Old-fashioned to Ultra-modern

Here are two quilt tops I've been working on recently. Different styles, but that just confirms I am addicted to fabric and quilt-making.

The first is called Granny Squares, which appeared in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine; the second is called Prism in the Forest, adapted from Stony Creek by Jinny Beyer.

I don't have recipients in mind for either quilt - yet. I just love piecing and finding ways to put fabrics together. Maybe will give the second to my son's girlfriend, as she likes purple.

Never encountered my pics being added that way, will try to add two of the pictures again.

I love both of them but I think I like the granny squares one better. It's given me an idea to use up all the squares I cut from my scraps!

crafty pat 05-27-2012 06:30 AM

They are all so pretty. You did such good work on them all.

sharon b 05-27-2012 06:31 AM

dunster 05-27-2012 06:32 AM

I love your quilts, especially the granny squares.

GramaLaura 05-27-2012 06:36 AM

Wow....wonderful quilts!!!! Love the first...so many tiny squares! The purple is wonderfully different. Great work on both :)

GrannieLOU 05-27-2012 06:42 AM

Love them both - but I quess I lean towards the traditional look. What size squares in the Granny Squares?

Thanks! The squares finish at 1". They were cut from pieces 1.5". A great way to use up Small scraps!

Both are fantastic! I also find myself drawn towards different styles. It feels good to stretch and do something different. Besides I find my gift recipients have really varied tastes. Beautiful work!

those are gorgeous! you are so talented!

Tweety2911 05-27-2012 07:54 AM

Your granny squares quilt is so beautiful. The second quilt is a interesting and appealing abstract quilt.

ube quilting 05-27-2012 08:21 AM

great three- D effect on the JB pattern and of course who doesn't love the very traditional granny square.
Prefect.

I love them both...being a Gemini I can relate to both! Is that Jinny Beyer pattern still available?

Helen S 05-27-2012 08:36 AM

Awesome! I sure do like the Prism in the Forest, though! Nice!

TerryQuilter 05-27-2012 08:36 AM

Wow, these are both beautiful, do you need my address? :D

They seemed to have changed the format a bit, the pictures all load in as little pics, but if you click on any of them, they blow up to full size - I actually like it, makes it easier to get through a thread, only opening shots you want to look at more closely.

Tartan 05-27-2012 11:31 AM

Both quilts are totally different but beautiful. Your piecing is great and all those borders on the modern one are superb!

SouthPStitches 05-27-2012 12:16 PM

Beautiful work as always Jenn!

cuppi duke 05-27-2012 12:17 PM

Both are wonderful but the purple and aqua one is stupedous. You did a great job on both of them.

EvelynJ 05-27-2012 12:34 PM

Hmmm, since I really loved them both I had to flip a coin to make the decision for me. The flip winner was granny squares and it needs to be displayed in my home as you don't have a recipient. Both are equally beautiful.

lollygagging 05-27-2012 04:50 PM

I think both are great. I love the numerous blocks in the granny squares, but also like the boldness of the modern one. Great color choices for both. Thanks for sharing.

joyce888 05-27-2012 04:59 PM

Wow those squares look mighty small. Fabulous work on both.

fred singer 05-27-2012 05:02 PM

wow really nice quilts both of them

Grandma Peg 05-27-2012 05:21 PM

Both quilts are just lovely. The granny square reminds me of the afghans my mom use to make using up her scraps of yarn.

debcavan 05-27-2012 05:24 PM

They are both great looking. I can' t pick a favorite, both gorgeous

mighty 05-28-2012 08:06 AM

Both quilts are great, but I love the Log Cabin. Was it hard to do in PP ? Thansks for sharing.

nursie76 05-29-2012 04:32 AM

Wow! They are definitely at totally different ends of the design spectrum, but I love them both....actually can't pick a fav. Whoever winds up getting them, they will be lucky. Thanks for sharing.

jillnjo 05-29-2012 04:32 AM

Oh, my, do I love the Granny Squares quilt!!! Beautiful work!! I realize too, that I so love color and fabric and sewing that it is just fun to try many different styles.

0tis 05-29-2012 05:00 AM

I like them both - you are my kind of gal - The Jenny Beyer quilt intrigues me because I want to know how its done - it looks like 4 triangle pieced together to make the whole quilt . They are both beautiful.

nanna-up-north 05-29-2012 05:02 AM

They are both beautiful. You've done a fantastic job!

MilyLily 05-29-2012 06:19 AM

Both quilts are wonderful! Although I am more of a traditional gal--------the Ultra modern with its asymmetrical balance and terrific color composition is a wonderful piece of art! I look forward to seeing your next "love piecing!"
