Swirly Dresden Plate WIP
1 Attachment(s)
This was inspired by a picture of a quilt called 'My Fair Lady' exhibited at the Arizona Quilt Show. That quilt was done with Stack and Whack and I can't do that but I did like the way my top came out. It looks a lot harder than it is. The colors are pink, grey and white with black accents. For the plate wedges, I cut a 3.5" strip of the main color, then sewed 1.5" strips of contrasting colors to the top and bottom. Then I used a 5.5" Dresden wedge and cut them out. I folded the wedge in half long ways with right sides together and sewed the top seam. I turned it right side out to make the point. I used a 7.5" square, sewed 5 of the wedges together, and hand appliqued them to the square. 4 squares for each block. I used black triangles as accents. The border was done with the Fons and Porter wedge template. I can't wait to quilt this - I am thinking of a pale grey thread and some really nice swirly feathers. It will be done on my Baby Lok Quilter's Pro domestic machine. I will post pics when its done.

Very pretty quilt.

It is as wonderful as it is awesome. Yes please for the close up shots! An interesting border to go with the pieced plates. The corners are interesting and I want to se how you pieced them, too.
I love and so does DH!:D TFS You will have to do a tutorial on this one! peace |
Great job!
|
Ha Ube I knew your DH would like it! The corners are simple. Its the same fan pattern but I used solid color wedges and alternated with white so that the spaces in between the solids would disappear. I can do a tute after I finish it.
|
That's terrific! Everything about it is wonderful and unique.
|
very pretty!!!!

That is just gorgeous.

Your top is definitely a different twist on the Dresden & came out great! I, too, see feathers on this top. I think I'd use those black squares as the anchors for them. Can't wait to see this one done! I know it's going to be fantastic!

I admire anyone who can take a pattern and change it all around. You did a great job with this one. I see you are in New Haven. My son and his family life in Madison and my DIL works in New Haven. I spend a lot of time there with my grandson. Love it there! Lucky you!
