A Swoon for Dad's New! Girlfriend

1 Attachment(s)
I don't know what this man has got but someone ought to bottle it. He is 86 now and has outlived two wives. We always thought he was a mean son-of-a-gun, but we must have been wrong. During his displacement after Hurricane Sandy, Dad found another lovely lady - at church - which is highly appropriate. She has seen lots of my projects and told him that she would love to have something I made. Well, I had something in the works and no plans for it. I thought maybe he could give it to her for Valentine's Day - but that was before I started the hand quilting - which took far too long for someone I barely know. I live in Maine, they are in New Jersey. Oh well - finally finished and ready to send. It's not one of my favorites but it is done. I'm challenging myself with orange tones.

Hope she knows how lucky she is, I love your quilt!

If I were single, I'ld ask to meet your Dad -- to get a quilt like this! Only kidding - lovely item, and she should realize that it's a one-of-a-kind treasure.

You said it, swoon is what she is going to do when she receives it. ou did a beautiful job on it. Good for your Dad, to be so favorably blessed with his years and charm. I'm sure he will be pleased that you were so thoughtful to his new sweetheart. :o

That's very pretty. And such a nice welcome for the new friend. She'll love it. Sometimes the orneriest people have the strongest constitutions. God bless him.

Nice quilt nice daughter! Your father must think a lot of her to ask you to make a quilt for her! Something in the air? Never too old for love!!

BETTY62 03-18-2014 08:53 AM

What a beautiful quilt. The lady receiving it is one lucky girl.

callen 03-18-2014 09:23 AM

Wow, that lady is doubly blessed - to have a new "friend" & to have you make her such a wonderful quilt. She is one lucky lady. I hope she buys a lottery ticket & shares the winnings with you !! lol

GrammaNan 03-18-2014 09:36 AM

Great piecing! You know they say that women are attracted to "Bad boys". LOL! Weather you give this to your dad's new friend or not whomever gets this quilt will be very lucky. Great job!

dunster 03-18-2014 02:14 PM

What a lovely quilt, and how nice of you to make it - and hand quilted yet! But it doesn't sound like your dad needs any help in attracting the ladies.

abdconsultant 03-18-2014 02:17 PM

I think it is beautiful.

Retired Fire Chief 03-19-2014 04:27 AM

It is really pretty, I love the colors. The story about your dad is funny, but you know, women tend to out live men so there are a lot of women out there. At all the assisted living homes I had in my jurisdiction, staff always said you could tell when a new single man moved in because there would be a long line of casserole dishes at his door! Too funny!!

Jingle 03-19-2014 04:48 AM

Beautiful quilt, hope she loves it.

Quiltshaker 03-19-2014 05:11 AM

Being a hand quilter, I know how long it takes. Nice quilt all around. She is a lucky lady to receive this beauty.

I really like your quilt. Orange has always been my favorite color and I'm glad to see it being used in so many quilts. Wishing your dad and his lady years of good health and joy.

s2br1 03-19-2014 06:09 AM

Your Swoon is beautiful! I have it on my "to do" list. I have never seen one with the stars in the setting. And hand quilted??? OMG. I couldn't give it away.

Kris P 03-19-2014 06:17 AM

Great quilt! I really like how you set the swoon blocks with the smaller squares. It really helps to showcase the swoon blocks.
