Tablecloth Quilt

3 Attachment(s)
I just finished this quilt which I intended to be a fancy tablecloth for our kitchen table (when guests are here.) I did tons of fmq on it, in case it needs to be washed often. Hubby said it was beautiful and should not be used on the table where food will get spilled on it. I'm reconsidering and may put it on a bed.

The fabrics are mostly by Denyse Schmidt, with a few look-alikes thrown in.

It's beautiful. I'd use it on a bed though. Cloths on the table can get ruined so easily.

Very pretty!!

Beautiful. I agree with your Husband, way too nice for a table.

cathyvv 08-27-2017 06:26 PM

Hubby is right!

QuiltnNan 08-27-2017 06:35 PM

it looks great

Ariannaquilts 08-27-2017 07:49 PM

If I did use it on the table it would be with vinyl over top of it to protect it. I think it's just lovely.

BrendaK 08-27-2017 08:35 PM

Super quilt and quilting. Agree with hubby. BrendaK

I agree with your husband - way too pretty to get food all over it.

Trapunta 08-28-2017 02:50 AM

Pretty quilt! Nice to see that your work is appreciated by your husband.

I think your quilt is lovely in every way. It would look beautiful on a table as well as a bed. I would use it on the table for special occasions; but, I would be careful about what I served for the dinner and not serve any of those foods that could make a permanent stain. I would also consider a vinyl cover when using foods that could stain. It is a win-win if you are just careful in advance. But, use your beautiful quilt for the purpose intended. I would add that I use quilted placemats every day and wash them often. There are no stains on them after very long time use.

Very beautiful. If you are afraid of a spill, any chance it could be used as a wall hanging in your kitchen? Even if you had to accordian it, it would still be beautiful and you'd still get to enjoy it in the busiest room in your house every day.
This sort of idea... https://www.google.ca/search?rls=com...SFuO8xKV6IR8M:

It's beautiful. I'd be afraid to use that on a table!

SusieQOH 08-28-2017 04:08 AM

I love the vintage look it has. Some of the fabrics look older- great quilt!
I agree with your husband on this one :)

It's beautiful. Use on table if you want to display it, but I would take it off when eating.

laurie kahle 08-28-2017 05:39 AM

beautiful quilt but i have to agree with your hubby put it on a bed

Gail B 08-28-2017 06:10 AM

I love your colours & pattern. I have made many quilted table cloths for both myself & my daughter. We both use them everyday on our tables. Food does get spilled on them but there has never been a problem with stains. If red wine or beet pickle juice gets dribbled on the table cloth I simply spray it & wash. Not a stain on any of them. I would definitely use it as a table cloth.

twinkie 08-28-2017 06:10 AM

That is beautiful and I fully agree with your hubby. The only way I would put it on a table is if there was a clear vinyl over it to protect it.

Maureen NJ 08-28-2017 06:18 AM

I vote for using it as a tableclothe. That was your intention. it is beautiful and you will enjoy seeing it all the time.

P-BurgKay 08-28-2017 07:27 AM

Use it for a table cloth. I make quilts for table cloths all the time. I have a quilted table cloth on my kitchen table all the time. Yes they get food on them at times, so wash them. I love my quilted table cloths.

lynnie 08-28-2017 07:41 AM

it's beautiful and I agree with your husband. put it on a bed.

Ms Grace 08-28-2017 10:33 AM

This is very pretty

Jordan 08-28-2017 10:51 AM

Beautiful quilt. I agree with your hubby-put it on your bed. If you use it for a table maybe a piece of vinyl would be a good idea to cover it up to prevent any food spots.

cashs_mom 08-28-2017 01:21 PM

I agree with your hubby. That's way too pretty to use as a tablecloth and spill stuff on.

ccthomas 08-29-2017 04:27 AM

I would try it as a table cloth. The guests will see how beautiful and pay special attention as they share a meal.

Treequilter 08-29-2017 05:00 AM

I like the idea for the tablecloth. You and others can see it more, a happy quilt!

solstice3 08-29-2017 06:00 AM

Too pretty to put food on but perfect to display

sewbizgirl 08-29-2017 07:06 AM

Thanks for all the great comments! I was so amazed my husband said it was "beautiful"... He only says my quilts are "nice", usually. I gave him a big hug!

I don't think we'll be having a meal on it. It can be removed before a meal is served. But the kitchen table is our place of gathering, sitting and talking, so it will be nice and cozy for that.

As for covering with plastic, I don't think I would because then you lose the cozy feel of all that yummy texture.

Don't worry... we won't hurt it! I promise... :)

pal 08-29-2017 08:31 AM

I agree about not putting plastic over your tablecloth - plastic just doesn't go with a quilt.

Stevensgirl 08-29-2017 08:42 AM

It's beautiful...I would be hesitant to use it as a table cloth too, unless I was using it as a table topper when the table was not being used.

Gaby 08-29-2017 09:32 AM

You can use single colored placemats if you use it as a table cloth? And a small runner i the middle or 2 place mats.it works for me and my quilted table clotj

mtkoldra 08-29-2017 09:35 AM

beautiful quilt, I would definitely use it for the bed!

BonnieI 08-29-2017 10:19 AM

I also think that it's too nice for a table. So pretty.

Jules51 08-29-2017 10:34 AM

I agree with hubby-it's so gorgeous!

sJens 08-29-2017 10:57 AM

beautiful quilt---I use quilts on the table all the time--they wash up nice and have never been ruined

Tweety2911 08-29-2017 11:02 AM

I agree with hubby....much too pretty for a table cloth.

JanieH 08-29-2017 11:11 AM

Definitely agreeing with your husband on this one - either use on bed or display. Gorgeous quilt!
