Taming of the Scrap Piles - first project of 2013 :)
7 Attachment(s)
Before I was going to start any new projects on my list this year I was going to "tame my scrap pile" Using the Majic Square pattern from my guild I decide to get to work. Here you will see the two containers that I stuffed with scraps and the 5 quilts I made from the scraps. 2 of the quilts will go to my guild for charity quilts, one went to my quilting bestie, one to my sister in Canada to use at their cabin in northern Saskatchewan, and one to stay here to remind me of all the beautiful fabrics/quilts I have made in the past few years. I took lots of pictures so if any of you would like a tutorial please indicate and I will get one posted soon here.

I think these are wonderful!!!!
Did you use a foundation? paper or cloth? I love string quilts and these are beautiful! What do your scrap boxes look like after?
I love them all. I don't have enough scraps to make a scrappy quilt. Yours are beautiful.

Very nice quilts, love scrappy quilts.
Oh your quilts are wonderful!
Wow, you were very productive. That was some very fast quilting since the first of the year. Great work.
Lovely quilts - did you just dive in and pick fabric randomly? I can see how they are put together but a tute would be much appreciated if you have the time
Tutorial request! Please! Love the quilts. I have a box of strings that I am ready to use.
That's three in favor of a tutorial. You're amazing to make these five quilts in 23 days!!! They're wonderful.
Great way to use scraps. Nicely done.
You were definitely a woman on a mission. Nice job!
Good job. I tamed my scrap pile by giving it away to someone in the area on Freecyle. Once I had it all organized I had 5 printer paper boxes stuffed full. Even after I spent the last 2 years making scrappy quilts. I gave up and it went away. Then I made an annoucement at my quilting group that I don't want scraps anymore.
Very pretty quilts. Is it Bonnie Hunter's strip twist http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/strip-twist.html ? |
I am in favour of a tutorial too. Great quilts.
Your quilts look great. I am working on scrappy quilts, a resolution for the new year. So a tutorial is something I need.
What a wonderful way to 'tame your scaps'! beautifully done!
I too love your quilts and would love a tutorial, please!!!!!
wow, nicely done
I don't think I have quite that many scraps but I need to make one of them too.
I would love a tutorial on this "Magic Square" quilt. Were all the strips cut to the same widths, or did you just dig into the bins?
Look forward to seeing the tutorial you post! Suzanne |
You did a fantastic job, it is a perfect pattern to "try" to empty the scrap bins. I keep making scrappy quilts and for some reason my pile seems to grow, I think there is a scrap monster in my bin that sneaks them in from other quilters bins.
Beautiful quilts and a huge dent in your scrap bin, it doesn't get better than that!!! Great job!
WOW!!!! getting to work right NOW!!!! coffee first. lol
Fantastic results from your scrap stash. Way to go!!!
Just to peck your interest the strips are from 1 inch to 3 inches in width and up to 17 inches long, sew them together to make a 17 x 17 inch square, no special cutting and I even used pieces that were pieced together as long as they fit the above criteria, heck I even sewed 2 uneven and non-matching pieces together to make 17 inches. I am at work now, so the pictures are on home computer - so hopefully by Friday night I will have the Magic Square tutorial posted. Bridge club tonight :) Thanks for all the comments!
Love your quilts! Well done for using up your scraps so effectively. Thank you for sharing. :)

You found a great use for all those scraps! They really came out nice! Great job!
Love your scrappy string block quilts. I have made 3 and always used a foundation.
Beautiful quilts, seems to me the scraps just keep growing. I made 8 last year and after making about 14 more quilts, I have lots and lots of scraps.
Awesome scrappie. I'm trying to use all scraps and have put this on the list. Thanks, great way to use scraps.
Very pretty. Your scrap pile makes mine look pretty wimpy. Guess I had better collect for a spell more.
Wow....you have been busy!!! Your quilts are perfect, colorful & happy......Great job!! :)
Beautiful quilts.
I've got scraps, now waiting for the directions. Your quilts are very pretty.
