This quilt is a total disappointment. It's not what I had envisioned at all. It's had every kind of problem you can imagine and I'm just so glad it's done. I feel terrible because it was supposed to be for my husband, but I told him I will make him a better one soon. Of course he assures me that this one is great and he loves it, but I know better. He can't fool me. :) (I made him this one because shortly after he bought me my new Bernina he asked if I would make him a "Texas quilt". He didn't give me any ideas of what he wanted, just something to do with Texas. He was born and raised in East Texas and is still a Texan at heart.)
It's waaaaay bigger than I wanted but that's my own fault. I bought the pattern from a lady over the phone and she just mentioned if I wanted it to be quilt size (not wall hanging size) I should make the squares 4 1/2". Did I bother I compute how big that would make this quilt though? Noooooo. :P I had planned some borders but after getting just the squares done, I decided against the borders, even though it would look better with them. I think it came out great. How is it a disappointment?
I think it is fabulous!!!! I don't see a thing wrong with it. I am originally from MS but got to Texas about 30 years ago....And I am Texan at heart but I miss MS.
Looks fine to me!
I love it! I guess we are always our own worst critics. Your fabric choices were perfect, and the quilting is wonderful. I was raised in Texas so a part of me will always be Texan, and I would be proud to own a quilt like this.

I think it looks great...isn't everything bigger in Texas anyway? :)
I made a quilt that I thought had too much 'empty space' a while back. I have been slowly filling it with embellishments that fit. Maybe you have some memorabilia from Texas that you could add?
I think it looks great. I love the fabrics you chose. They are perfect. You did a great job on it.
I think you are too hard on yourself. It looks great and your husband says it's great sooooooo...... Great job!!!
Quilt looks good. Don't be so hard on yourself.
I love the pops of color!
I like your Texas quilt!
Oh gee...I think it looks wonderful! You can totally tell what it is and it doesn't look anything like a blob! :)
I/m Texan throughout and it looks GREAT TO ME. don't hide it...flaunt it cause it looks great.
You can add a bigger border...Red, White, And Blue...girl it is great.
I live in Arkansas now but will always be a Texan and I think your quilt is BEAUTIFUL.
I think we have a lot in common, I never like a quilt after I finish it. I think I am just too tired of it.
It's just different than what you usually make. For a hubby who wanted a Texas quilt--it's about as perfect as it can get. Yup!
You made a great quilt! I looks wonderful! You should be proud, we are!!!!!!
What's wrong with it? I think it's great.
To bad you feel that way, its quite nice.
Sometimes when you work real hard on a quilt, you can't see the forest for the trees because you have spent so much time so close to it. Don't look at it for a few days, then suddenly walk in a room and see it spread out. You will love it! I'm a Texan and I say y'all did a fantastic job!
Fabulous! I like the idea of adding embellishments or appliques as you go - if you really think it needs something else.
since it is 90X90 you both can snuggle up under it. Problem solved. By the way I think it is beautiful and those cowboy boot fabric are sure cute. Did you quilt it? How wonderful you made your sweetie the first thing on your new machine. ...POP some pop corn and put in a romantic movie and enjoy your cuddling quilt!
Go easy on your self!   |
Texan here, too, and I think it's great!

Go easy on your self!   I did quilt it. It's just an all over large meandering design. Quick and easy. :) Wanted to add that you Texans crack me up. There isn't another state in the US where the citizens love it more than y'all love your state. I love it over there too so I understand why you're proud of it. :) |
I think it's just fine the way it is! Great job!! Your DH loves it and you made it especially for him so it's just what he wants! It's nothing like a blob!
You are being way to hard on yourself :( Your quilt is beautiful and of course your husband loves it .... what's not to love?! True you had a picture in your minds eye and the quilt didn't live up to that for you, but we didn't have that picture to judge it by and we all think you did great
i don't think 90 x 90 is too big for a king at all. by the time two bodies get into it and the edges get pulled up, you'll be glad you have that size. as it is, it gives you only a 5"+ overhang. any smaller would give you none at all.
very nice and great work and can't get any more texas than that, can you? yeehaw  EDIT: a king top is 78 across and 80 down. so a 90 quilt across isn't that much. can you make a new jersey quilt? same size, please. |
This Texan thinks it's great! Very "stylized" Texas.
I love your Texas quilt. The Red, White and Blue is a nice touch especially in these troubled uncertain times. Great job. Love it.

Actually I love that quilt!!! It represents Texas so wonderfully, and your color selections are wonderful!!! I don't know why you are disappointed. It came out great!
I think you did an awesome job! I love it!!
I think it's great! With quilts most times, the bigger they are, the better! I know we're supposed to be critical of our work, but that's only to a point. Remember to give yourself more credit than critiques :)

I think it is beautiful!!

She lived for some time in Sitka but then moved to Anchorage. She's actually coming down Monday to visit her grandbabies. We're all looking forward to it. |

Thank you all for your kind words. I am too critical of my own work, always have been. I need to learn to break out of that. I see other people's stuff and want to make something like it, but mine never comes out like theirs. Everyone's work is original so I need to learn to love my work as well as other people's. I think we all are guilty of being too hard on ourselves though. :) |
