Had this Thai Silk forever so I thought I would make a pair of cushions for a friend who has not been too well, hope she likes them.

Last time I visited her I noted the colors in her lounge suite, I think they will go rather well. Was not the easiest fabric to work with, Thai Silk frays while you look at it.

Wow! They are beautiful Carol!! Not the easiest fabric to work on I'm sure!!They will be much admired!!

Kitsapquilter 09-17-2011 12:08 AM

Wow!! Those are the most beautiful pillows I have seen! I can only imagine sewing with that silk. Did you use the serger? Excellent work.

leiladylei54 09-17-2011 12:11 AM

They are just so pretty....stunning!!!

Carol Wilson 09-17-2011 12:18 AM

No I did not use a "Serger" I swear too much at them when the thread breaks so I gave mine away to a good home. Took me ages to work out what a "Serger" was, here down under they are known as "Overlockers".

Bit like me thinking your Barn Quilts were made out of fabric, two countries divided by a common language.

Very nice and very clever, I'm sure your friend will love them.

I'm with you, sometimes I need an interpreter to understand some of the terms on this board. I'm sure our sister quilters think the same of us Aussies.

Cheers from Sydney,
Glenda

Once you have made one you have to make more because of all the choice of color combinations, like quilting they are addictive,

How come you call them "pillows" when down under we call them "cushions", pillows are what you put your head on when you go to bed, what do you call the "cushions/pillows" on a couch or a chair or do you call them the same?

Izy 09-17-2011 03:15 AM

Beautiful stylish quilts, the Dahlia pattern really works well with silks! It may have been a pain, but just look at the end result ..fantastic!

abdconsultant 09-17-2011 04:04 AM

mandyk 09-17-2011 04:06 AM

You give me inspiration. Have Thai silk from when my DH lived there for work. Your pillows Re gorgeous. If a friend gave me something like this, I would love her forever!

Fantastic. In my next life I am going to have a nice clean house and it will be full of beautiful things made out of silk just like your cushions.

I've got a bag full of gorgeous silk scraps and they fray every time I get them out to gaze at the colours. I am bookmarking this topic as a reminder and an example, to show what can be achieved with silk.

Meanwhile, back on earth, thank you for saving me the bother of looking up sergers. I'd gathered they were nothing to do with serge, but hadn't come anywhere near working out what they were. Three nations separated by a common language.

QuiltnNan 09-17-2011 04:25 AM

stunning!

Chicca 09-17-2011 04:28 AM

DawnMarie 09-17-2011 05:28 AM

Was the silk hard to work with? I don't know that I'd have patience for something I couldn't press with high heat.

mtnative 09-17-2011 05:31 AM

Beautiful.

fleurdelisquilts.com 09-17-2011 05:33 AM

Gorgeous, rich pillows. Thai silk may be difficult to work with, but it sure gave your project a beautiful, rich look!
