Ok, so... one down, three to go.
I'm making this for a wall hanging for a friend's birthday on Friday. She had the nerve to ask me to give her one quilts I'm working on... um... NO?! I haven't even finished yet and that's a pretty darn big gift to give someone. She's a friend but we're not THAT close. Anyway, I've been eye-balling this block for some time now, and I'm glad I only decided to make a wall hanging because I think I would hang myself if I had to make many more of these. Took me a full hour to make that single block! It's going to be 4 blocks, with a few fun borders and some very simple quilting, since I have to go see her on Friday, and I work 2 jobs and probably have to bring my kitty to the vet in the next few days. Let me know what you guys think of it. I wanted more vibrant colours, but I just raided my stash, and I think these colours work. :) |
That looks tough! Real pretty too!!
|
That looks awesome!
I'd love to see a whole quilt done in those blocks! LOL ;-) |
I likee  I think it would take me longer than an hour to make one... Can't wait to see the rest

Oh yes, those colors do work. That block looks ridiculously hard! As usual, you have it mastered. What is wrong with kitty?

Kidney stones, I think. Poor thing :( |
That looks like a hard block! What is it called? And you are going to have it all together and quilted by Friday! Superwoman! :?
It looks like it will be just super! I do like the colors, too. Could I be your friend? :? |
It's from quilter's cache, it's called "caned seat". I don't get the title... maybe I'm a bit slow.
|
I think you are making someone very happy by working so hard for her birthday! You are a good person to take so much time for her.
I know most people don't realize how much money and time go into quilts. Don't judge her too bad. Hey she loves your work! That's not all bad. Right? |
You must be pretty good friends after all! That block looks tough! Makes me wonder what the quilt you are working on looks like!
|
wow, love the design! shows such depth. She is really going to be after a full quilt if you give her this
Sorry to hear about kitty :( |
Looks great. Good luck with your kitty.
|
Looks great. And I love the colors.
|
That's pretty!
And I agree...it would drive me insane! |
Melanie, that looks beautiful! Look forward to seeing the rest together. Wow!
So sorry about kitty! Hugs from my "family" to kitty! |
no way i'd get that done in one hour. the colors you chose work very well. it looks wonderfully 3-dimensional. :P
|
That's a really nice block. It looks complicated. Hope to see the finished product.
|
looks pretty complicated!!!! but you did a great job......
|
Very effective, can see how it could drive you mad. But will look stunning as a quilt.
|
Very nice. And yes that block would drive me crazy too.
|
Wow you have done a wonderful job as for me (well I'm still into rectangles and squares) but if i wasn't I think I would have thrown it right out the window. lol Can't wait to see it finished.
|
I like it. I like the colors you chose.
|

M LOLOL, OMG, you know what? I knew that! I was watching a program a while ago and they explained just that, and in my head I went "Oh, so THAT's why that pattern is called that"... I guess I just forgot that I knew, lol! |

Gorgeous! Lucky friend!
|
That is going to be an amazing wall hanging!!
I love the colors! They work nicely together!! Great job! Lucky friend! |
Looks very nice, but makes me dizzy. That's just my eyes tho, not the pattern.
|
You are good!! I'd get one block done and that would be it because I know the other ones wouldn't match up... Your friend is very lucky!
|
it's all been said...love the colors, looks difficult, make me crazy, not 'that good' a friend...no matter who it is, lol...good for you, to be so nice, though,...and yes, she had a nerve, and yes, she may not give up after this...did I leave anything out...oh, knew about the cane seat, bc I'm in the south...not sure it is a southern thing, but we do grow cane down here. splendiferous! there ya go
|
I love this design. It is really like an optical illusion which I love.
Beautiful work! :) I always have trouble getting things to line up when it is disected like that. Tho I haven't seen this design before. Love it!! :-) By the way the cane refers to a cane seat in a chair and in some cane seats the reeds are woven so there are four sections where the reeds go from the outside into the middle to meet in the center. Your design is very like some I have seen. My mom used to be an antique dealer. |
Love the colors. You did that faster than I would have. I would probably have given up(for the time anyway) and made something else for the friend.
Hope the kitty is ok. |
Wow, that looks tough. But VERY impressive!
