From THIS...to THESE...

Went to the thriftshop last week & just fell in love with a set of pillowshams...not for the shams (paid $4.00 for them), but for the color & quilting...first words I told hubby was "I can see a purse from this"...he didn't even look at me like I was nuts as most hubbys would...cuz he knows me! So, here's the results. 1. One of the shams (front)--chocolate & tourquoise (could I pass those colors up? NO!!!) 2.Sham back (I used for lining) & Lg. messengerbag front. 3. Lg. messengerbag back 4. Lg. messengerbag inside back zip pocket 5. Lg. messengerbag front inside pocket with 2 pen holder areas, too. 6. Lg. messengerbag open front 7. Lg. messengerbag ziptop under flap 8. Sm. messengerbag (for me :) ) I made mine like Lg. only I cut it down because I like smaller bags. Inside is the same, except only 1 penholder area. Front pockets outside are shorter to fit this size proportions. The outside back area I made a flapped 2-pocket instead of the one large pocket on the larger size. 9. Sm. messengerbag outside back pockets. I still have scraps leftover for another small purse. All I added was a solid brown (I think it's called duck), fusible interfacing, zippers, magnetic snaps. I love the way they turned out. The messengerbag pattern was a freebie online. http://pinoyinoz.blogspot.com (under tutorials---Messengerbag with zip top closure). The lg. is her original measurements. It was fun making these...

We have been together for some years...but I still get the "are you serious" look from my husband when we go out "rummaging":). Beautiful work, nice attention to detail (the ribbon on the zip pull).

Great Great GREAT! I was really amazed that you saw that in the shams - and envious. It is usually two days AFTER I see something like that when the idea would bloom in my mind!

Vicki - What a beautiful bag!!! You really have inspired me. A couple of years ago I bought a queen sized quilt with a lovely brown top and beige back at a super bargain. It cost much less than the fabrics, batting and custom quilting. The quilting was done in beige thread on top and brown on the bottom. It came with two pillow shams which I can't use. Now I know what to do with them.

Love that fabric great job
|
That is impressive - really you made a designer bag that would cost you big bucks if you purchased it retail - I love that you took the pillow shams and really made something very useful that is unique - bravo.
