It is very beautiful. I am finding that every quilt I see I want to sew! I have several going now and am eyeing some more fabric to make this one perhaps!

QuiltingNinaSue 07-27-2010 11:46 AM

Beautiful. Hope it wins big for you; it is just perfect!!

Oh I want to See!!!!! I want to do another one in a different color palette.

Should have said "going to make". I'll probably start it in a month after I've done my previous commitments.

ann clare 07-27-2010 12:32 PM

Good Luck. Beautiful quilt.

CoriAmD 07-27-2010 12:45 PM

Beautiful! good luck at the fair.... I think it should win! Love the colors

brookemarie19 07-27-2010 01:14 PM

Ok, the first thing my son says is... when are you going to make one for me? LOL I think that is just so good! He has had a real hard time picking a pattern for his room. I do have a question... I am debating on just buying the pattern online or just going for it and getting the kit. My question is can you tell me what the total yardage is for a twin size bed? I think its the single on the size options. I know you can't tell me how much of each color, but just the total could give me an idea of how much per yard I would be paying if I bought the kit. Thanks if you can help.

mygirl66 07-27-2010 01:16 PM

It is stunning, good luck, but Im thinkin you are the winner already!

Thank you for all your great feedback - I did end up quilting in circles - each block got a circle around it so the circles overlapped each other which turned out really well. The border I was of two minds - not to quilt at all becasue I did not want to detract from the design, BUT I know that the judges like quilted borders. The pictures are not the greatest (took them on the floor of my office!) but they definitely show it off.

Hey if anyone knows how to contact Chloe at toadusew - could you ask her to send me a PM? I would like to get an acknowledgement statement from her so I can sign the back and make sure they get credit.

That is a great quilt!!

I have a question, is this the pattern by Brenda Henning? If it is I'm going to kick myself as I just cancelled a class to do with her by this title at the Valdez Quilt Festival. I am going down in Sept. and I had signed up for 4 classes plus a mystery and I was just to overwhelmed by that many workshops plus what I already have going on so I looked them all over and decided to cancel that and the mystery and leave myself some free time to work on the others. But if this is it I'm going to wish I had cancelled the Feather Star instead I think. Oh well.

This design is by Chloe Anderson of Toadusew Creative Concepts (toadusew.com). She is really nice - she featured Yvonne on the toadusew blog when Yvonne was making hers, and had a lot of compliments about mine when I sent her the pics.
I am so jealous that you get to go to the festival! One of these years I am going to take a single vacation and go to Pennsylvannia and maybe get some workshops in. Needless to say, the hubby and kids don't think that would be a fun holiday!!!!

Marilyn1 07-28-2010 04:00 AM

Love it This is one that I have to get the pattern for as it is one on my list to do.

smagruder 07-28-2010 04:37 AM

You did a fantastic job. The quilt is really exceptional. Good luck.... and let us know how you do at the fair.

Babs194068 07-28-2010 04:58 AM

If it doesn't take 1st place the whole thing is fixed. Awesome job. Just my opinion. I have been to a lot of quilt shows and I have not agreed with a lot of the ideas.

Yeah it seems they want perfection but if you don't have a long arm machine, its pretty hard to maintain the tension on the piece in order to keep lines straight, make sure there are no puckers (even with a walking foot, it is still a problem) and quilt it as a whole unit (I did mine in 2 pieces so I had to seam the back). I think frankly it will get a 3rd at the fair but I really want people to see it and hopefully be inspired to keep the craft alive. However it does will be up to the judges - everyone on this forum gave me tons of postiive feedback and suggestions which means a lot more to me than the judges' opinions!

Sewing Grandma 07-28-2010 05:27 AM

Where did you get the pattern from? What a striking quilt.

eeraemore 07-28-2010 05:31 AM

I just absolutely love this. I have wanted to do something in black and white (and a little red) and have been (desperately!) searching for inspiration for my next quilt/pattern. This just may be it. Wonderful!

JNCT14 07-28-2010 05:43 AM

The pattern is called Thinking Outside the Block, designed by Chloe Anderson of Toadusew (toadusew.com). You can buy the pattern or the full kit with material. I reverse engineered it because it is a variant on the Log Cabin style and I found it easy to modify to what I wanted. It is not difficult (a bit picky when you line up the blocks). I love the black and white but if anyone has done this in other colors, could you post? I want to do another one!!!!

mrs. fitz 07-28-2010 05:56 AM

You said.....

but I really want people to see it and hopefully be inspired to keep the craft alive.

Well we've all seen it and by the number of us who have orderd the pattern, we're certainly inspired by your quilt. Mission (partly) accomplished no matter what else happens. It would be a surprise to see it in 3rd place, can't imagine anything topping it.

sew_southern 07-28-2010 05:58 AM

So cool and it really plays with your eyes! :)

Donna P 07-28-2010 06:25 AM

I like that

Alicemae3 07-28-2010 08:05 AM

The dimensional look is wonderful. I would vote for it.

Pineapple Princess 07-28-2010 09:38 AM

Great work!

AnnaK 07-28-2010 10:12 AM

I love this pattern--still haven't figured out how one pieces this. Good luck at the fair!

Thanks - its a Log Cabin pattern variant so everything gets sewn at right angles to the little blue block...then the blocks are pieced together.

Oh, I hope so - but the judges are very picky, as they should be. Trouble is, if you don't have a long arm machine, it can be difficult to get everything perfect - for example, I did the quilt in two pieces so I could fit the material under my machine, and then sewed them together - some judges don't like the back to be in two pieces, even if you hand sew it (which I did - I like handsewing!) and stuff like that.

But people will get to see it and it might inspire them to make one!

I did not know you could do a quilt in 2 pieces?I have a hard time trying to quilt because of the size of my machine.Tell me how you did it,please.

I really like this quilt more everytime I look at it and I've wanted to make one for Son1 and his wife but she can be particular for sure. I think this one has a real Awe factor.
Can you tell me the size/dimensions please?
Good Luck at the fair, I hope it makes state for you.
