Thinking Outside the Box - its Done!!

2 Attachment(s)
Finished! Its going to the Durham Fair - cross your fingers, guys because if it takes a first it will go to the state fair - I hope I hope!!

Thank you for all your great feedback - I did end up quilting in circles - each block got a circle around it so the circles overlapped each other which turned out really well. The border I was of two minds - not to quilt at all becasue I did not want to detract from the design, But I know that the judges like quilted borders. The pictures are not the greatest (took them on the floor of my office!) but they definitely show it off.

Hey if anyone knows how to contact Chloe at toadusew - could you ask her to send me a PM? I would like to get an acknowledgement statement from her so I can sign the back and make sure they get credit.

Anyone who wants to make one - Do it!! Great pattern, fairly easy, striking results as Yvonne will tell you!

DebraK 07-27-2010 06:31 AM

Gorgeous. I was so inspired by your quilt when it was still in the flimsy stage, that I purchased the pattern as well. I think it will be hubs Christmas present. Good luck at the fair!

Oh, I hope so - but the judges are very picky, as they should be. Trouble is, if you don't have a long arm machine, it can be difficult to get everything perfect - for example, I did the quilt in two pieces so I could fit the material under my machine, and then sewed them together - some judges don't like the back to be in two pieces, even if you hand sew it (which I did - I like handsewing!) and stuff like that.

But people will get to see it and it might inspire them to make one!

Very nice quilt - I love how it looks so dimensional! I think the brown fabric with the lines on it and the way you used it make it look that way. Fabulous quilt!

Good luck at the Durham Fair? Where is the state fair?

Durham Fair is one of the oldest argricultural fairs in New England - its in Durham, CT, which is about 20 miles north of New Haven. Its actually pretty neat and the food is to die for.....

The quilting was done in white thread so it is Really hard to see - I inserted colored circles over the actual ones in the picture to give you an idea.....................

Thanks for showing the finished product. I'm among those who saw your WIP and immediately ordered the pattern. Hope to start it in the fall, probably with a small size.

Good luck, please let us know how you do. I can't imagine you won't win, this is an outstanding quilt.

billsgirl 07-27-2010 10:38 AM

Win or lose, I will let everyone know along with comments from the judges. BTW - it is going into a quilt calendar sponsored by AQS so be on the lookout - some time in October they said? They also said that they are on the lookout for other unique artisan style quilts and would be ameneable to seeing people's work - I can send the address if people are interested.

virtualbernie 07-27-2010 11:04 AM

Yea, it's pretty. I'm making one in pink for my granddaughter. I hope mine comes out half as good as yours!

Congrats on the calendar. I love the colors and the way it appears to have multiple floating layers.
