My grandmother called the other day....she tells me that she is hosting a reunion at her place soon and she has tried everyway she can think of to have something "special" made up and its just tooo expensive. Could I please.......well, it turned out to be 24 hot pads (which I didn't know how to make since I don't know how to sew  )...So I finally figured it out and I think they turned out to be pretty cute in the end....whadda ya' think?

All 24 showing the backs too

They look GREAT to me! Who says you don't know how to sew??????
Is the heart design and date embroidered on?

I even like the date of the reunion.....my birthday!!!

Kathy N 05-31-2010 05:39 AM

Cute potholders, great idea. A lot of nice work.

ginnie6 05-31-2010 06:03 AM

dh has been wanting me to do a quilt for one of our reunions but I just haven't come up with a good way to do one. he was thinking signatures...but who gets the quilt and all that? These are an awesome idea though! I just showed him the pic and he likes this idea! So I'm going to borrow this idea if you don't mind. Oh and your reunion is on dh's birthday!

Tiffany 05-31-2010 06:06 AM

I think they turned out pretty nifty Pat. I imagine they'll be a big hit and the first time someone accidentally burns one, you'll hear the tears from across the country. Your grandmother is going to be thrilled. :-D

dglvr 05-31-2010 06:07 AM

You don't know how to sew?????????????? Well I guess you can't say that now can ya. They turned out wonderful. Good for you. Now, you wanna make me 1? I don't use my good ones they are just decorations in my kitchen.
Great job.

What a fantastic idea! Everyone can always use a potholder, and one with a memory is great. You did a lovely job on them. Three years ago we had an informal reunion of my husband's kids and grands. I took some plain muslin squares and had everyone decorate as they pleased. For some of the littler ones we traced their handprints and let them scribble. I made it into a 'Grandpa's Quilt' (using prints that had some meaning to the family in between the muslin ones) and have it on our guest bed. I've taken to to show the kids a couple times what they did and how they've grown. Have a wonderful reunion! Your potholders will be a big hit!

Those are so cute! I like to make potholders out of my orphan and "test" blocks. They make good gifts, because people aren't so picky about the colors, etc. of something that will just get stained and burned anyway, and you can always use a new potholder.

MamaBear61 05-31-2010 07:24 AM

Cute potholders and you did a great job.

BKinCO 05-31-2010 07:27 AM

dkabasketlady 05-31-2010 07:43 AM

Cute potholders & it didn't take you long to learn how to "sew", did it? Your DGM had a great idea!

k3n 05-31-2010 08:01 AM

Patti that looks like a pro job to me! :-D And I'm assuming that 'Roach' is the name of a place and NOT the insect?!

Joan 05-31-2010 08:03 AM

What a great idea!

(I hope everyone there appreciates all the work that went into them! )

charismah 05-31-2010 08:11 AM

purplemem 05-31-2010 09:45 AM

These look fantastic, Pat! What a great job! I'd like one of these, too! Only not with the "roach reunion" since I wasn't invited ;-)

DeniseB 05-31-2010 09:49 AM

I think you did a great job on them.

rootyr 05-31-2010 10:12 AM

Awesome job!!!

thequilterslink 05-31-2010 12:47 PM

for one reunion i did a bakers dozen cousins quilt, there was 13 kids at that time, since then it has grown a lot lol. I gave each adult who came 1 ticket, then had a drawing for it.

Leota 05-31-2010 12:52 PM

Patti... those are adorable!
And... if you quilt, you sew.... you just don't feel confident to construct apparel. :D that's an entire different set of skills.

Teacup 05-31-2010 12:55 PM

Absolutely wonderful idea! I'm sure after 24 of them you were ready to quit long ago, but you did a great job, and they are a one-of-a-kind memento. I'm sure your grandmother will be very pleased, and that's worth the effort.

quiltedlamb07 05-31-2010 01:15 PM

They look great and what a fab idea for a reunion. hmm, might have to use that one :)

sandpat 05-31-2010 01:18 PM

Oh, thank you all....yup...the Roach is her maiden name..not a place or an insect..and I wasn't invited either, so don't feel bad  Even thought the date is 1 day BEFORE MY birthday!! Actually...she isn't really my grandmother (she was married to my grandfather though...this reunion is for her side of the family who I don't know at all! ) I love her like she was my "real" grandmother though.

It was a cute idea though and she is tickled to death with them..so all is well.

greencat 05-31-2010 01:27 PM

You did a wonderful job and I'm sure they'll be appreciated by all.

Evelynquilts 05-31-2010 02:01 PM

mimee4 05-31-2010 05:19 PM

That is a nice keepsake from the reunion. I hope you have fun. The potholders will be a hit!

watson's mom 05-31-2010 06:04 PM

What a great idea, who dosen't need and use potholders. Every time someone uses it they will think of all the fun at the reunion. I might 'borrow' this idea for our Christmas get togethers. Thanks for sharing.

weezie 05-31-2010 07:18 PM

Ya done REAL good!!!!

paintedquilt 06-01-2010 08:47 AM
