My son gave me a thread rack and I decided to make it into a ruler holder.I laid it flat and it holds alot of rulers very well. Here is a picture.I hope you can see what I did with it.

Mousie 11-14-2010 01:46 PM

How about hanging it on the wall? If you put a bumper or something on the back along the bottom, it will cantilever it out just enough to keep the rulers in the rack.

skydiver70 11-14-2010 05:07 PM

And I put mine in the Goodwill box and took it to them. Oh, well someone will probably find a good use for it.

amma 11-14-2010 05:13 PM

Sooooo clever!! I love how it will hold all sizes too :D:D:D

pab58 11-14-2010 06:52 PM

Tweety2911 11-15-2010 08:40 AM

What a fantastic idea. I have one laying around somewhere collecting dust, I will have to find it and copy your clever idea

Donna P 11-15-2010 09:05 AM

Lynneander 11-15-2010 09:21 AM

What a great eye you have! I see many thread racks with a new future on this board!

Lady Jane 11-15-2010 10:07 AM

Great idea, have to try this.

auntmag 11-15-2010 10:40 AM

Very clever. I use a folder rack from the office supply section of WM.

HIBISCUS 11-15-2010 12:53 PM

Hi Friends,
I used an extra thread rack for rulers, but I left my hanging on my pegboard so I didnt have to use my countertop. Works like the photo for the regular, and the larger ones will usually have a hole that will fit the spool peg if the ruler is too big to stay put, like my 15-inch square and the big triangle.

ann clare 11-15-2010 12:55 PM

Very clever. Thanks for sharing.

Deara 11-15-2010 12:58 PM

Thanks for the idea.
I will convert mine to hold my rulers as well.

The things I learn here is awesome.
We have such gifted and practical quilters on this board.

Happy sewing,
Sandi

Great idea!

auntiehenno 11-16-2010 02:33 AM

Have a ruler holder and it certainly doesn't hold a lot, your is much more efficient.

Momsmurf 11-16-2010 08:02 PM

What a great idea!

My son left a ceramic toothbrush holder he made and I now use it to hold my small rulers, pens, sissors and other odds and ends on the small table next to my sewing machine. It has an opening in which one could put a cup and the lip is flared outward with holes to hold toothbrushes - great place for my stilletto at the end of the day. It also has what looks like an attached coaster at the base which is a great place to keep spare bobbins.

Thanks for your idea.

Berta48 11-16-2010 09:01 PM

Thanks for that idea! I have two of those racks and they re constantly getting knocked over. Time to lay them flat!LOL

Sewze 11-16-2010 09:16 PM

Great idea, but mine hold all my embroidery thread or most of it, anyway. Must buy some more when I can get them 1/2 price.
