Three different Jelly Rolls

3 Attachment(s)
A very generous friend that belongs to the same charity quilt group that I do, gave me 3 jelly rolls (20 strips in each roll) to make into quilts. I never know what to do with jelly rolls, so came up with this idea. It is a 6-1/2" square, and the jelly strips are each cut into two 6-1/2" and two 10-1/2" strips, and the left overs were sewn together to make the borders. Waste free! I think there was about a 6" long strip left over from the jelly roll. Looking a them all together, I think I will add the 1" sashing at the ends to set off the border.

Thanks for looking.

Great tops!

JoyjoyMarie 07-24-2016 02:00 PM

These are very cute - and I love a "simple" pattern! How big are the quilts?

LavenderBlue 07-24-2016 02:22 PM

That worked out perfectly. You are very creative. ;-)

Each are so pretty. The blue is my favorite. I love all those blues, and that pattern. Simplicity can be the most.

Cookie46 07-24-2016 02:59 PM

Very pretty!

Thank you, and the pattern couldn't be simpler! They measure 40" x 55", the maximum size the charity I sew for wants turned in. This way, we don't need to piece backing if the quilt is wider than 40-41".

Love the same fabric centre square with the different fabrics around each one.

oksewglad 07-24-2016 10:10 PM

Very clever...

I too have used 6.5" square in a square and there is little waste. You did a great job with finding fabrics that coordinated with the jelly roils.

Those look great! What a good use of a jelly roll. I'm going to try this.

brandeesmom 07-25-2016 04:10 PM

Great use of jelly rolls. They are all beautiful.

Great quilts. The blue is so peaceful, the red/gray is great because its gender neutral, but my fav is the yellow/pink because its such a happy quilt!

retiredteacher09 07-25-2016 05:43 PM

You have such great ideas! Thanks for sharing!

I really like all 3 but the red one is my favorite.

You certainly have an eye for choosing pretty color combinations in your quilts. The borders look great, too. Thank you for showing us your pretty quilts.

You sure put those jellies to good use - very nice!

coopah 07-26-2016 04:33 AM

Beautiful...all three will be a treasure to someone. Those bright colors are cheerful and the blue/white is just classic.

3 great looking quilts.

These are lovely charity quilts and will be treasured by those receiving them. What a great way to use some jelly rolls --- simple, but very effective.

mhollifiel 07-26-2016 06:44 AM

You used my favorite charity quilt pattern! It's called the Potato Chip Quilt because, as you can clearly see, you can't make just one! The center square can be any size you like. I usually go 8.5 or 10" on mine but the 6.5" works best with the smaller jelly rolls. Also, for a different (but easy) look, you can whack each block into equal quarters and rotate two opposite corner blocks 180 degrees, sew back together and it turns into a Crazy Eight block that looks very sophisticated but is EZ peasy!

Evie 07-26-2016 07:19 AM

They are all very nice, but I especially like the blue one. Thanks for another great idea.

Didn't know this pattern had a name LOL but should have known there is nothing new in the quilting world! Gotta try your Crazy Eight on the last jelly roll I have, sounds fun.

Beautiful job!
