Three Quick Hot Pads

3 Attachment(s)
Here are 3 hot pads I made this weekend. I had some scraps to use up and a friend had asked for some.

I got the idea for the swirled feather quilting design from a quilt just Charisma posted--Thank you, Charisma!

They are about 9" in diameter and have a couple of layers of batting. Next time I'll add another layer or two of batting, but then I'll have to quilt each side separately before I put them together so that I can get them under the foot of my machine.

They were a such fun little project!

Very pretty - actually, too pretty to use especially for everyday. I would wait for company and then show them off!

I think they would make lovely trivets. Thanks for sharing - the design and quilting are gorgeous.

You did a great job!! They are very pretty and so well made. I look at Charisma's work for ideas too.

How did you cut/sew the round binding? I would love to know.... it is perfect... to match the rest of your hot pads!! Beautiful.

Sharon-OH 03-26-2012 03:26 AM

These are great. Did you use a double layer of batting because of the heat from items that could be placed on top? You could have used a product called insul-bright. Used for heat related items. Works great if you didn't want the bulk form the batting.
Love the trivets.

Quilt Novice 03-26-2012 08:32 AM

Great job!!

Quiltlady330 03-26-2012 08:35 AM

Really nice. Never would've thought of that. Did you use Mylar or something insulated?
You might not have to use so many more layers of batting.

sewnsewer2 03-26-2012 08:38 AM

Great idea! Personally I find the ones you buy slippery so I make mine.

QUILTNMO 03-26-2012 08:59 AM

very nice you did a nice job!!!

Tartan 03-26-2012 09:10 AM

They are great! I can't even see where you joined the binding! I like the third hot pad best because I think the center swirl looks like a rose. I loved Charismah's swirl design when I saw it too!

Nice work. Thanks for the tip about about using more batting and quilting each side separately. I never thought of that.
