Just got back from a thrift store and found my very first vintage quilt to buy! I don't know anything about it, but it's GORGEOUS, and the workmanship is amazing. I'm so inspired! The edges are frayed and a few of the triangles are worn through. The batting is medium thick.

Any input is welcome, I am not well versed on these pretty ladies but I would love to learn!

It's Queen size with a single sheet size backing of muslin type material.

I just knew I wanted to find a completely handmade one that struck me as pretty.

The same fabric failed consistently. The maroon ones.

Congratulations on your find!!! THAT is a beautiful quilt!

Interestingly, I've heard some say that a lot can be hidden with good quilting and this beauty brought that home! The triangles edges often overlap (not something I'd do in my current piecing practices) but this quilter just adjusted his/her top quilting to hide that.

The overall effect looks commercial even! But close inspection shows the hand sewing (obviously).

Glad the "pretty lady" found a good home with you.

She's a beauty!!!!!!!!! By the way, it's called Ocean Waves.
All you have to do is applique over the damaged ones.
I would try to get fabric from that era if possible.
Congratulations!! :D:D

A friend of mine will put a patch to match what is torn.
She will hand needle turn it, trying to match the shape.
She does not try to take the original apart to re-piece it with other fabric.
I believe it is because it has a higher value if left as is under the patch.... as original.
I would imagine that one could make note somewhere with the quilt of the areas that were covered.
Anyway it is a wonderful quilt.
Others say they wish that quilts could talk....there would be quite a story.
Thank you for sharing this.

Ocean Waves... wow.

I think I will find a local guild expert to help me determine how old it is. I actually have a stash of antique fabric (just because I love it). I'll see if anything I have matches. Another nice person on this board explained another method regarding netting so I know there's a few options.

Thanks ladies - I'm glad you all love it as much as me!
