re:the 'points' in the fan: I've seen a dresden plate blade where you sew the two slanted edges together & turn them right side out to form the point.

Is that how these points were achieved?

Seems turning under silk edges would be a slippery process :o)

I've seen one of those and the points were left free, not sewn down.
