I have my Dad's ties and have been looking for a pattern. You did a beautiful job. I just had to read through all the post and gathered all the information you provided. Thank you for sharing. PS: I found the book at Amazon and it's on the way.....

Oh beautiful quilt. I wanna make one, what fabric did you use for the quarter circle?

Lady Jane 02-03-2012 08:15 AM

I do love this, and have many ties of my Daddy's. Where did you get your pattern?

judord 02-03-2012 08:50 AM

Best use of ties I have seen anywhere! Great job.

Did you open the ties or are they sew on without removing the innerfacing

WisWis 02-03-2012 10:41 AM

Lovely quilt-great use of ties.

I would think a Bento Box pattern would work up really nicely with old ties.

urgodschild2 02-03-2012 12:39 PM

I like this very much. What a great idea. Now where to get some ties.

tlstick 02-03-2012 12:51 PM

Did you have to take the ties apart then do a Dresden? I have been collecting ties to do a quilt but fail to find a pattern on how. I really like your quilt, it's beautiful. I am anxious to see how you did this. With probably 400 or more ties I need to do this project.

Gingamet 02-03-2012 04:25 PM

The border really sets off the blocks! Wonderful quilt.

Mad Mimm 02-10-2012 11:23 AM

happynana 02-10-2012 11:24 AM

that is beautiful! you did a wonderful job on your quilt!

ncredbird 02-10-2012 01:01 PM

Check with your local library. If not on their shelves they can request an inter library loan at no charge to you. I do this often when looking for a particular pattern or even so I can preview a book at my leisure before purchasing. Ann in TN

Hi. I agree, what a beautiful quilt!
I am not a quilter, but have all of my dad's ties that my mother has saved through the years for a quilt. My sister and I would like to have a quilt made from them for her. Any suggestions as to people/places I could contact that would perhaps make it for us? We don't even know where to start. I'm in Birmingham, AL.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

maine ladybug 03-03-2012 10:37 AM

I would start by googling it and see what some of the sites show. Just a place to start.

This is just wonderful!! 171 ties! OMGosh. I'm sure that my dear hubby has owned that many, but I make him throw the old ones away.

I agree, this is the best tie quilt design I've ever seen.

burchquilts 03-04-2012 08:17 PM

This is stunning! The center is fabulous & then the border just really takes it to that next level!
