The first picture is the 24.5" center block. I posted the very center earlier--I didn't realize just how much was to border it. It was very tricky for me--many Y seams. It still measures 1/4" too big.

The next are of the four corner blocks--they will have some log cabin work around them. They are 9.5"--48 pieces in each of those babies.

The next step is to make all the flying geese for between the first set of eight blocks I posted here and there. Then I'll finish with the log cabin corners and flying geese borders. Once it's all together I'll see how big it is and decide just how to get it to the king size they need!

I'll add the picture of the whole quilt from the pattern so you can see what I'm talking about.

I put this aside for a few days to work out a scrap quilt with leftover horse fabric... some to donate, some to sell. I'm off for a week, so I'll see how much I can get done.

Totally Awesome!

Just Me... 02-19-2012 05:09 AM

Very pretty pattern. Try working on quick table toppers when you get tired of it. Not only will you end up with MORE UFOs, but it will give you the stamina to tarry on! LOL

Sewfine 02-19-2012 05:11 AM

That is beautiful.

Elainequilts 02-19-2012 05:25 AM

I took a class where you refigure the pattern by using i/2 square triangles to make the diamond shapes and no Y seams. Check Minnosota Quilt Co for videos, or you tube.

rainagade 02-21-2012 08:26 AM

i am doing this quilt too. the projected started as a BOM last year. I am still working on it. The center is complete and I am working on the section that has those little pieces making the log cabin section. All the flying geese are done waiting. I love the fabrics.

natalieg 02-21-2012 08:57 AM

Karla,

The progress looks great! When you are ready for the king size, turn to the last page in the instructions and you will find them there. Basically, they added a strip to each side of the flying geese that are on the top and the bottom.
I did like you, had to take a break from it every now and then and work on other things!

Keep up the good work!!!

OKLAHOMA PEACH 02-21-2012 09:01 AM

Great work, Love the colors

Raine 02-21-2012 09:05 AM

I started the same quilt a year and half ago in batiks. This is inspiration to put all the pieces together, after I finish the GD quilt. So many UFO's, ugh! I also put it aside and started working on smaller projects then larger ones. I shall finish it this year.

117becca 02-21-2012 09:06 AM

beautiful!! Love your fabrics, too!!! Can't wait to see the finished project..

anniesews 02-21-2012 12:26 PM

Keep up the good work!!!

Well--Jenny said she doesn't want to use it until they are in a house--and they aren't looking until summer...so I have lots of time. ;-) She measured their bed and the size she wants was about the size of this quilt as is. I'm going to get it together, then we'll measure again and make sure it goes down far enough--then I'll add a border to get it where she wants it. She picked one of the fabrics in the quilt for the border.
