I just finished my Batik Squares top. This is only my 2nd quilt. I was really nervous about everything lining up. Any ideas for binding? There is no borders...

MistyMarie 07-01-2010 06:52 PM

Wow. That looks really nice. Good job!

littlehud 07-01-2010 06:57 PM

Wow, that looks great. You lined up perfectly. Great quilt. Thanks for sharing.

I agree you did a great job.

cjomomma 07-01-2010 07:00 PM

You did a great job for your second quilt.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-01-2010 07:03 PM

Beautiful quilt!!! No ideas for binding, sorry !!

Theresa 07-01-2010 07:04 PM

You did an excellent job! I love batiks and this sure shows them off well. Hummm, how to finish. Doesn't look like it need any additional borders. I'd bring your backing over to the front and stitch.

kayquilt 07-01-2010 07:20 PM

WOW!!! Only your 2nd quilt. I can only wish I was that good on my 2nd one. If it was me I would probably use one of the darker colors for the binding. It would sort of be a nice frame around this nice quilt.

Ditter43 07-01-2010 07:22 PM

That looks wonderful!! You have a lot of possible choices for binding. Pick what appeals to you!

Harmony 07-01-2010 07:24 PM

Your quilt is gorgeous! If you have leftovers, you could piece your binding from all the fabrics you used in the quilt--I think it would tie everything in together very well!

Pam 07-01-2010 07:25 PM

Looks like everything lined right up, you did a great job! Why not sew strips together and just use up scraps from the quilt for your binding? It would be pretty, you have great colors.

That looks great!

I think if you want a subtle border that you don't notice, you should use white to match your squares. Otherwise, do something fun and use strips of your batiks to make a scrappy border. Or if you have a "main" color in your room or your sheets are a certain color then use that to tie the quilt in to your decor.

This quilt has so many possibilities!

franie 07-01-2010 08:28 PM

Yes I like it!

Vanuatu Jill 07-01-2010 08:41 PM

on a quilt like this that has several fabrics and colors, I sometimes like to take my left-over "scraps" from that quilt and cut them in random lengths, 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 wide and piece them at random to make one strip the required length for the binding. It saves having a separate fabric for the binding and really pulls the whole piece together. It really does look nice, especially if your backing is a solid color or tonal.

Very pretty!

Very pretty..I just love batiks!

LindaG 07-02-2010 03:56 AM

Nice job! If you have any of the color batik pieces left, you might cut them 2-1/2 inches wide and join them for a scrappy binding. Keep up the good work!

beachlady 07-02-2010 04:24 AM

That is very nice. It looks huge!

quiltsRfun 07-02-2010 04:25 AM

Great job on the quilt. I had to bookmark it for future reference.

I agree with Pam on the binding and other comments she made.

The quilt I'm currently working on does not have borders either. It calls for taking your batik scraps and sewing them together and having a multi-colored binding. It would look awesome with your quilt too I bet.

paintedquilt 07-02-2010 04:40 AM

Strips of colours that are in the quilt look really nice :!:

thequilterslink 07-02-2010 05:15 AM

You gave me inspiration :) I hope on my second quilt I can do this well..it is beautiful!

twistedstitcher 07-02-2010 06:20 AM

Great job on your second quilt! It's beautiful! I think the pieced binding that has been suggested would be perfect.

mytwopals 07-02-2010 08:40 AM

Very nice. I would use the cream/beige fabric in all the squares for the binding.

CarrieAnne 07-02-2010 08:41 AM

Very pretty! What a great second quilt!

aneternalpoet 07-02-2010 08:51 AM

jljack 07-02-2010 10:45 AM

Very pretty!! I would put on a medium tone binding so not to compete with all the colors. Nice work!!!

ann clare 07-02-2010 11:10 AM

Beautiful Quilt.

mrsk 07-02-2010 11:33 AM

I'm definatly for using one of the scrappy versions suggested for the border. I think it would really set off the whole quilt!
