I'm not complaining because I do have a dedicated sewing room. The negative is that I have to keep it rather orderly and close all my tables up when we have company as it also doubles as our guest room. This week we've had lots of guests so my machine had to go to bed and all my projects put away. It makes for a tight space with my cutting table and sewing table open, but I'm planning on taking my daughter's room when she leaves in the fall  Thought some of you may be interested to see how I keep things organized and somewhat tidy in a small space.

I keep the blinds closed unless I'm in there to prevent any thread issues. And the door is usually kept open so the fat quarter rack is similarly shaded from sunlight.

WOW! It looks great!
Nice stash!!!!

Candace 05-17-2011 07:27 AM

My closet is full of fabric, but all of it is folded and organized neatly. The grey dresser is full of fabric yardage arranged by color. And there are tubs hidden under the bed full of folded yardage. My Studio cutter and dies are easily accessible on the window seat that I tiled for ease of use. Because it's south facing, I get really good lighting when I want to.

Oooooh, I love your room!

What a great room. I love how you have stored your fabric behind the door. May have to steal this idea for my "guest room".

RUSewing 05-17-2011 07:37 AM

So organized, neat and tidy. Thanks for posting pics - inspiring!

Lori S 05-17-2011 07:39 AM

What a wonderful quilters "playroom"!

cjk 05-17-2011 07:47 AM

Here's a link to a posting I did on the construction of my fat quarter shelving http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-33886-1.htm

Chasing Hawk 05-17-2011 07:59 AM

Nice room, what is that machine in the last photo?

AngieS 05-17-2011 08:00 AM

WOW! Your stash of fats is HUGE! LOVE THE ROOM! :) It does stink that you have to share as a guest room but I don't even have a corner for my stuff. Soon I will, soon.

LoriEl 05-17-2011 08:21 AM

Great room! good for you-being able to stay so neat!

It's the embroidery unit for my Bernina 830. I keep it stored there when not in use. The machine itself is lowered and closed into the sewing table.

buckeyed 05-17-2011 08:25 AM

WOW!! how nicely organized. right now my sewing room is a mess. I am having to use it as an office and an sewing room. Needless to say in a small (bedroom sized) room I have papers and fabric all over the place!!

jeaninmaine 05-17-2011 08:32 AM

What an well planned room. So nice and organized, I envy you.

jmabby 05-17-2011 08:42 AM

fabric_fancy 05-17-2011 09:03 AM

its lovely but where is your longarm? for some reason i thought you had one

bisseau 05-17-2011 09:07 AM

What a wonderfully organized sewing space. I love order and anything that helps me stay organized is a good thing....just as your guests keep you neat and tidy. Its so nice to have a place for things and you have done such a great job at imaginative storage. Very creative and attractive. Inviting too!

sak658 05-17-2011 09:08 AM

Lovely area to sew in, I love the organization... Love the fat quarter idea...

No longarm yet, though the 15" of throat space on my 830 is letting me manage. A new Innova is on my wish list and will eventually take over my DD room. When funds allow...

suebee 05-17-2011 09:14 AM

Very nice room. I love the fat quarter area. I want that!

Magdalena 05-17-2011 09:16 AM

I love the beautiful room! Very creative. I have the guest bed in the closet. I don't have that many guest, so I would rather use the space.

JulieTN 05-17-2011 09:20 AM

KathyAire 05-17-2011 10:55 AM

I want to come and play. I'll be a guest and I only need a place to sleep and a bathroom. I don't mind sharing space with your fabric. Love your stuff.

Candace 05-17-2011 11:03 AM

Kathy, you can come any time!!

craftybear 05-17-2011 11:11 AM

The quilt police are going to come to your house and gather up some of your stash and bring it over to my place. I have specified that I love pinks to make scrappy "Breast Cancer Awareness" quilts and also warm earthy tones. That is one really lovely room.

Jingle 05-17-2011 11:24 AM

WOW, very neat, you sure have made use of that room.

JanetM 05-17-2011 12:24 PM

Your room is great. It's obvious that you really thought everything out when it came to organizing all of your supplies. I really like the fat quarters tucked behind the door.

You also have great light in your space which makes it cheerful to spend time there.

Why move anything to your daughters room? Just make her room the guest room ;)

Quilter7x 05-17-2011 12:26 PM

Looks like a really nice room Candace. Love all the light you get in the room. Very nice!

QuiltnNan 05-17-2011 01:05 PM

My thoughts exactly! I love your sewing room. So much light and everything is so clean and organized.

Do you really want to move everything? It looks like you have the perfect set-up now.

Kappy 05-17-2011 02:15 PM

How organized is that. I WANT your stash!

I'm not planning on moving. I'm planning on taking her walk-in closet for an enlarged stash area and putting a long arm in her room, eventually.

:-D

cny_sewer39 05-17-2011 07:34 PM

What a great room. You did a great job of planning the lay out even if it is a sewing room/guest room.
