It is indeed a quilt to be treasured.

It is a beautiful quilt -- I love those old-fashioned patterns best!

For the name of the block, it may be a variation of the County Fair block...

That is really a treasure.

delma_paulk 02-02-2011 10:06 AM

I do no know the block but love it! Perhaps one she made up? All colors go together, as in nature, and I think you have a great treasure there.

Thank you for sharing with us.

I just looked up the block, and I too think it was derived from that block!

Annz 02-05-2011 11:01 AM

I don't know what block it is but it is lovely.

quiltyjax 02-08-2011 11:54 AM

it's your Grannie's Block!!

marmalade 04-02-2011 08:57 AM

Not only is that beautiful, but priceless.

yonnikka 04-18-2011 09:52 AM

The name of this block is "County Fair" or "County Farm", a Nancy Cabot block, according to the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, by Barbara Brackman. (See #2077). One difference is that your Grandmother has added some Corner detail that does not appear in the Cabot Block. It is constructed on a 9 x 9 Grid, comprised of 4 "Saw Tooth Stars" that have been compressed and overlapped to create the small Diamond Center. In your photo examine the block in lower left corner with a small pink square in each corner.

Your Treasure quilt also has an alternative block as yet unidentified...it looks like it has 4 Big Arrows pointing in 4 directions...

yonnikka 04-19-2011 10:51 AM

Correction: the County Fair block is on an 8 x 8 grid.

jojosnana 04-19-2011 10:53 AM

I agree, what a treasure. I have never seen this block before but it is lovely.

TacoMama 04-19-2011 10:54 AM

What a treasure! I love the quilt and you are so fortunate to have had such a precious grandmother.

nlgh 04-19-2011 02:14 PM

I haven't read all the posts, but I think the block is Hole in the Barn Door, or a variation of it, that is set on point. It is a treasure, for sure. My granny who quilted, lost enough of her eyesight, that she could only see light from dark. Her youngest daughter did not have a good sense of blending colors, but her scrap quilts turned out great.
