Really LOVE your Irish Chain. The colors are so very soothing. I would like to do one, but at this point, I'm sick of matching seams, so it may need to wait awhile. BTW, all the seams I could see look fabulous! If you like this better than the log cabin, I know I could give the log cabin a very good, loving home!

Very pretty. I am usually drawn to vibrant "in your face" colors or rich earth tones. I rarely consider pastels or muted shades unless it is for background or blenders but you have made me rethink my preferences

I found myself mesmerized by the pictures of your irish chain and really liking the subtle colors of it. And yes, that fabric you used as your focal really is pretty. I'm going to have to get out to the finger lakes again some day so I can scope out your favorite Mennonite shop. A few years ago I was at a rally in Geneva and there was this huge flea market nearby that was a blast. Tons of Amish and Mennonite vendors and many stalls with sewing machines (those must have been the mennonites  )and quilters. If I wasn't with a bunch of bikers who find fabric and quilting boring and only allow me the briefest of pauses amongst things like this I could've spent hours browsing those vendors. Are you near Geneva and do you know what flea market I am talking about? It seemed like a pretty permanent set up with loads of buildings, kind of like a fair. I think it was actually in a town outside Geneva but I don't remember the name. :?

Those fabrics are awesome..what a beautiful restful quilt..just what you need after a hard day in the big world..

Elsie 08-24-2009 09:49 AM

real good love the colors

quiltnut4ever 08-24-2009 09:56 AM

Very pretty and great choice of colors!

barnbum 08-24-2009 12:15 PM

feline--I bet you're thinking of The Windmill!! It's outside Penn Yan--close to Geneva--kind of--about 15 min away. It's only open on Saturdays...but there's not a lot of fabric there--but so much to see!!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, everyone!

NorBanaquilts 08-24-2009 02:35 PM

Very pretty, love the soft colors.

twistedstitcher 08-24-2009 04:28 PM

That's beautiful! I love the soft muted colors.

Yes that's it! We stayed at a hotel in Penn Yan and I remember the name The Windmill.

JoanneS 08-25-2009 08:21 PM

Oh yes :!: You do a GREAT job putting colors together  This one is like a dip in a cool mountain lake on a hot, hot summer day

Debbie1 08-25-2009 09:56 PM

It's beautiful- no wonder you like it so much!

sandpat 08-26-2009 05:22 AM

Karla, that is soooo soft and beautiful! I love your choice of design for that fabric, it is lovely!

chickadee_42us 08-26-2009 03:55 PM

Keep going - that one is on my list to do too! Yours is a fine example to strive to match.

Quiltgranny 08-26-2009 04:10 PM

"Whispers", what a great name for a gorgeous fabric. Just love it's simplicity. That's gonna be one gorgeous quilt when finished. You're doing a great job. Keep up the good work. Enjoy.

PerfectlyCreative 08-26-2009 05:23 PM

Love the colors on this ... you're making me want to do one now!

barnbum 08-26-2009 05:31 PM

And did I mention I have Whispers in at least two other colors?

I've had no sewing time for days as I am getting my classroom ready. Ugh--it's taken so many hours and I'm not done.

But I did get the back to the Black and White Splash done--and the one for Walk Through the Park is almost done.. and I made the decision to buy a 108" back for the watercolor floral log cabin... so I did make some progress.

I want to work on Kayaking and this one though!! I need more time!!! :?

sandpat 08-26-2009 05:52 PM

I know exactly what you mean Karla! I need more than 24 hours to a day! You sound like you have gotten some things done this summer though!

barnbum 08-26-2009 05:56 PM

Well--my goals were to finish 4 quilt tops--two are done and two are still under construction, to kayak often (did that), and to work with horses--specifically to get Jazz lunging well (we have a good start) and to teach Rosie to lay down or bow (that didn't get done-not for lack of trying  ).

I have to weed the garden thoroughly one more time because once school starts 9-8-09--I don't touch the garden till spring.

So--it hasn't been a waste of time. And there's still some time left before it's over.

sandpat 08-27-2009 04:29 AM

Sounds lke you've had a great summer so far....and still some left! The kids here have already been back for almost 2 weeks I think. Its weird how different the school schedules are around the country. I don't remember going back this soon when I was a kid, of course, we also didn't live here.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and maybe Rosie just needs more horse treats to learn those things. I know she is smart, she may just be out smarting you and Kennedy! Keep working, she'll get it

sewjoyce 08-27-2009 06:10 AM

That is going to be one beautiful quilt!! I just love it!! :D

reneebobby 08-27-2009 06:11 AM

Sew and Sew 08-27-2009 07:40 AM

Oh no.......I have found another quilt I love.......I think your color choices are so calming and soothing.........I love love love your quilt......another on for my to do list..........

KittyGram 08-27-2009 07:45 AM

It's gorgeous! After seeing yours, I'm kickin' my own butt, because I had a similar fabric to your center fabric, and the instructor I had at the time suggested I not use it, because the print was a bigger print. So I passed up that fabric, got a much smaller print (in fact, the center is white on white), and did smaller prints on my chains (it's a double). It's still a work in progress, but will post pics when finished!

But I'm kickin' my butt, because that initial fabric choice could have worked out well. : (

I just shouldn't have listened to her. On my first quilt, a Card Trick, she suggested I not go with the pink that I'd chosen. I did, and it really worked with the other fabrics I'd chosen. See, go with your gut instinct!!!

kathyd 08-27-2009 02:29 PM

I love your fabric choices. Aren't Moda marbles great! They have a nice depth to them without changing a lot in color. I also use them as my solids a lot of time.
I see you did this post on Sunday. Maybe you could send the quilt to me since that was my birthday!!!
Anyway keep up the good work, you always have such nice quilts and pictures to share. Especially the ones of your kayaking surroundings, you make me jealous.

I enjoyed do an Irish chain a couple of years ago. It seems to put itself together. Your quilt is awesome.

Love your chain. But I love single , double and triple chains. I have done them all. Your color choice is wonderful. Isn't nice when a material calls to you and you find a way to use it?

pennyswings 08-30-2009 02:26 PM

So far as I can see you have done it again Karla, another beautiful quilt Just love the fabrics you get from that shop.

gaigai 08-30-2009 02:29 PM

Karla, you always pick the perfect colors! It's beautiful!

barnbum 08-30-2009 03:10 PM

Oh gosh--if I ever make an ugly one--will you be honest?

HAH! It's no more possible for you to make an ugly one, that it would be for you to neglect your horses!

I have sat here staring at this quilt for about ten minutes. It's simply stunning! I want to make one!!!! That is so beautiful! Hubby even ooohed and ahhhhed over it!

Great job, can't wait to see it done.

Stunning!

barnbum 08-30-2009 06:15 PM

Aww--thanks, mrsj..now that I've started this one, when I go through my stash looking for something I keep thinking "Oh, this would make a nice Irish Chain!" (repeat 5 times)

I stopped working on this one for now to make more "Lake" squares... eventually I'll finish both of them!!

I'm thinking the same thing!

There is NOTHING I have seen that you have made Karla that is ugly. Everything is so beautiful!

But, if you DO make an ugly one, I'll let you know. lol
