Tropical Parrotise S&W--Quilted by Feline Fanatic--Finished

I saw a picture in a book and I attempted to re-create it. When I contacted the author, she said there was no commercial pattern. A student in one of her classes had done it. I used a wild tropical print and made stacks of six and for the center 12. Then using two stacks, alternated the prints to make a DP. Appliqued miles (it seemed) of bias tape by hand, both sides. Used only one stack for the undulating border. This is the finished project, hung. Feline's quilting is exquisite and makes the whole thing cohesive. The circles for the centers were made by alternating Center plate which is about 27". The center circles are made from 6 smaller circles. This whole process is endlessly fascinating to me and you can make the most wonderful blocks from the same material.

I was so blessed to get to see this quilt in person while working on it. The effect of the S&W was mesmerizing and fascinating. I loved working with Q65 on this quilt. Pictures do not do it justice and I am so happy to see it hanging beautifully. The scalloped finish is stunning! Here are links to my posts while it was on the rack and you can see some additional closeup views of those fabulous Dresden plates Q65's S&W wedges created. A bit more quilting was added after I posted these pics. Q65 and I decided it needed a little bit more in the star and I had inadvertantly left out an echoing line inside a section of the border.

What an undertaking! The finished quilt is truly amazing. The undulating border creates such a beautiful frame.

Geri B 06-08-2016 01:29 PM

I certainly hope you plan on entering that in a large quilt expo. It definitely is a show-stopper. The quilting is equally spectacular...great combo! Are those "dresdens"bound and layer appliquéd, then appliquéd to the background fabric, along with the border! That's what I'm seeing, but I may be way wrong. However you did it, it is indeed a great accomplishment!

This quilt shows why quilters take whole fabric and cut it to pieces and then sew it back together again.....to make a work of art. You and Feline are a great team! Thanks for sharing your quilt with us!

jillmc 06-10-2016 03:29 AM

I can only imagine how many hours were poured into this work of Art! Simply gorgeous. This should hang for generations-I hope you have created a label that reflects this special quilt!

EmiliasNana 06-10-2016 05:07 AM

I am awed by your creativity. What a process! You and Jane made a super fantastic team and I expect many blue ribbons on this one..............WOW!

Gerbie 06-10-2016 06:42 AM

The quilt and the quilting are just fabulous!! Excellent work ladies! I love that border. I purchased one of Bethany's books probably one of her first ones. I saw her on one of Alex Anderson's quilting shows years ago and thought her pattern was so cool. I bought and cut out the pieces for a quilt, but ran into a snag and did not get it finished. It is one of my ancient UFO's, I need to get it out and see about finishing it. Mine won't hold candle to yours though.

MissSongbird 06-10-2016 07:00 AM

That quilt is so awesome! The design, the fabric, the colors! Just wonderful and it looks perfect for summer.

This amazing group knows how much work was put into the thoughts, design, and construction of this quilt and express themselves well with "WoW". I say double WOW. That should catch the judges eyes for sure. So happy you got it finished and can share it with quilters who appreciate and understand quilting in its finest form. Thank you for sharing your latest project.
