Very pretty. I love them all. I have not had time to try wholecloth yet, but it is in my list of things to do.
Being an antique collector, I am also intrigued by the trunk. Is it a family heirloom? |
That trunk is not a family heirloom but one I purchased at a local antique store. My husband and I refinished it ourselves. After my Dad died I had one of the trunks he had on his back porch restored and refinished by a local man. The trunks came over with my grandfather when he immigrated here from England in the very early 1900,s. I let two of my brothers take those quilts after my Mom died as I got her quilting stuff. Since the man who did the other trunks was from my church I picked his brain to find out how to do the one I restored. We used one of my husband's old belts to replace the rotted leather handles and my daughter found me the hinges somewhere in PA near where she went to college. I use a piece of plexglass on top of the quilt to protect it. It allows the quilt to be seen without getting soiled.

I love them all. But I really love the whole cloth quilt. I wanna do one someday but all I've ever seen in a kit were the huge quilts....

Sewjoyce,
I usually buy my wholecloth kits at big quilt shows. I think you can also get them through catalogues and probably on line. I have a queen size white on white that I finished years ago. I also have a kit to make another one that I haven't started yet. The companies that sell stencils often have small ones say 24" by24". I pick up several of them when I go to a big show. They make great small wallhangings or pillows. They are nice and portable so I usually take one with me on trips or cruises for something to do. I like doing them because they are already marked. Basting and marking are the chores I like the least. I have a king size blue star top I purchased from a vendor at a guild show 4 years ago. When she has time I am going to get a friend who is a long armer to baste it for me. I love the cheaters panels. They make great gifts for various occasions and again are portable and doable in a realitivly short amount of time. I made 4 of them for gifts for my best buddies in our little Bee this past Christmas. |
