Should I mix up the colors? I'm thinking not having the purple on the outside all the time. Maybe every third block and move around the yellow and green...

Rose Cactus 05-03-2011 05:58 PM

I like it. Just have fun with it.

0tis 05-03-2011 06:06 PM

Great colors - I would do the same and mix up the yellow/green.

QuiltE 05-03-2011 06:07 PM

That's going to be a "fun" quilt to make ... every time you work with it, you'll be bound to be happy!!

When the corners come together the four pieces are going to give you a purple square on point. I think it'd be nice ... and help frame up the green and yellow.

Though if that's not the look you want ... then, perhaps you want to switch the colours around or add an 4th colour?

Qbee 05-03-2011 06:09 PM

OMGosh....I really like that block! Can I ask what the name of the block is and is it hard??

I think I will make a few more just like this and lay them out and take a look. Thanks. Don't want to add a 4th. My DGD asked for these 3 colors. : )

It is a tube quilt block. Search on this board for tube quilt and you will find how to do it. It really isn't hard. I did get the 4 parts sewn wrong and had to take out the stitches and be very careful how I sewed them together. Won't make that mistake again! Ha! The purple is a 6 1/2 inches wide strip and I cut the other two 3 1/2 so when I sewed them I would have 6 1/2 ". Then you just cut triangles.

Absolutely ... keep to DGDs plan!
The four purples together would give you a nice block of colour to do some fancy quilting!

It's done just the same way as the other block is done, just different widths of the fabrics and both sides of the tubes are strips, rather than the one large purple one in this case.

I love this block, it is a great way to use up scrap strips. Who doesn't have 2½" strips laying around. It only take 4.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 05-03-2011 06:32 PM

Go ahead and mix it up and have some fun with it. It is a very bright, pretty colored block. Can't wait to see it finished.

I love your colors. I am working on the same pattern and decided to change the blocks for some variety.

Glad you found it! I just looked at it and it's a great tute!

My Stained Glass (avatar) is done the same way with three strips. Sew 2-1/2" of colour in the centre, with black and white on each side for the lead (1-1/2" each). Tube them with another threesome. Then cut.

insgal62 05-04-2011 07:45 AM

I'm a purple freak! I love it! Are you going to use a sashing?

Love the fabric and your colors. That's going to be a very pretty quilt. Hope you show us when you are done to see how you switched it up.

ditto

bobolee 05-05-2011 04:14 AM

I think you're right; some purples on the inside would work well!

ns 05-05-2011 04:45 AM

I am in the process of making that same quilt. I am doing mine with a jelly roll. I like your colors and I would mix them up. Can"t wait to see the finished quilt. I am not sure if I am going to put them on point or not. Will see when I am done.
