Just finished this tumbling blocks for a baby quilt for a friend's shower this past weekend. Started it last Saturday, finished it this Friday night. Since I am such a batik ho, I had plenty in my stash to do the quilt, found it fairly satisfying. Made a trip to the store for background and backing. Due to pocketbook constraints, had to quilt it myself, but didn't do too badly.

I thought it fairly gender-neutral, and had a bit of a fright when picking out the background and the store clerk said, "well, obviously it's for a boy!" No one else agreed with her, so I blew off her comment.

Had a little discussion about the label in the "main" section of the forum and as the pictures show I made a label, but will not finish it until the baby is born. Didn't follow the advice of one of my smart azzed friends who said to just toss a sharpie in with the label and call it good. Uh, huh....

pieced, not quilted

Wow - that is beautiful! And your quilting is great, really lets the geometry of the pattern stand out! :-D

Thank you for the source info. Will try to find it through the library. Lots of other quilting videos on the youtube link. Whew - so many designs that appeal, so little time!
Your quilt is just beautiful and the border & background were a wonderful choice, too. It's said that babies like intense colors so that should be one happy baby! Lucky one, too.

That's pretty! I've never seen that pattern done in batiks, I like it!

This is really beautiful!!!! Great work!

gailmitchell 01-26-2010 03:44 AM

It's sold out at Amazon. But the video is pretty good for the experienced sewer. Does it start out with 2 inch strips?

gailmitchell 01-26-2010 03:47 AM

Sorry, I just re watched the video and I think she starts out with 2.5" strips.

I see a beautiful quilt and one that will stand up to grubby little fingers (pastels have a bit of trouble hiding those) and drool marks. Very sweet gift.

samroberts01 01-26-2010 06:45 AM

Wow, I just love that, the colors are just gorgeous together!

That is beautiful. I love tumbling blocks, but I've never tried it.

dkabasketlady 01-26-2010 07:41 AM

The girl at the store didn't know what she was talking about. I see this for either boy and girl and the proud parents will love it! I like the signature block also.

dglvr 01-26-2010 07:46 AM

I love it. I love the batiks. I love everything about it. I just watched the link to doing the blocks on youtube. It doesn't look as hard as I thought. I might have to try it.
1 thing though. It looks like alot of work for a baby to use everyday. If it were me I would put it on the wall. Its way to pretty not to.

SharonC 01-26-2010 07:47 AM

I absolutely LOVE This quilt. It sure is gender neutral and so very pretty. It really shows the depth of the blocks.
