Saw the twisted Log Cabin Tut, and was determined to try it. Asked a bunch of questions, and I was off!

I tried to make it bigger, but being an idiot, just kept screwing up. So instead followed the directions verbatum.
I made it a lot harder than it needed to be. I didn't feel good, kept messing, up but figured one of two things was going to happen. I am going to snap this ruler in half or this block IS getting done! LOL
It doesn't look bad. Was going to finish it no matter what.
Got it done, then felt confident to try it on a larger scale.
I like the bigger version much better. A lot easier on me. Not big on piecing, or working with angles. I made these two blocks in a few hours, Okay maybe several hours... Who cares they are finally done!
I think it would be neat to do several in a quilt, but it may end up a WIP for quite a while.
I do have a quesiton. My squares are poofy. They bubble up. Is this from sewing on the bias? And is there anything I can do to prevent it on future success with these blocks?

Tut verbatum, narrow strips

variation, larger 2.5 strips

I like the larger strips myself, and I like the overall look. Would you do the whole quilt in those colors, or use other combinations?

Beautiful blocks!! :D:D:D
It is probably from the bias, try starching your fabrics before cutting them next time. It really does help to stabilize the bias cuts :D:D:D

I like your blocks, would make a wonderful quilt. Was it paper piecing? That's the only way I've seen it. It looks tedious though.

I like it. your persistance has paid off. I recommend starching before cutting too...makes pieces (even small ones easier to work with.

I don't know. These are my family of greens. I have been collecting them for about 2 months now, I want to do a green quilt. The two fabrics I used, are my favorites. But don't quite go with the others.

Did you press after each round? That may have helped

Those are cool. I like the bigger strips better but both are great. Bias sewing is so hard. I'm still working on mastering that.

Very pretty!

Yes, Ironed. Lots and Lots of ironing.

I like them. I actually like the narrower ones a little better, but I like motion and "busy" patterns. I would use all your greens - you will be surprised how well they work together when they are all in a quilt. For maximum effect you may need to get a few more lights and darks for higher contrast. As to the "bubble" you can heavily starch, but also you may want to use a dual feed or walking foot to help feed the top and bottom fabrics evenly - especially since they are bias.

I like them both but prefer the one made with the narrower strips! Stunning!

Great job on the blocks! Love all the greens!

I just finished a quilt last month that had alot of bias edges. I asked for recommendations and several people mentioned that in addition to using starch be very careful about ironing pieces because that can stretch them. I tend to get carried away with ironing and need to concentrate on pressing, not ironing.

See, that is what I was starting to think. That I was doing more harm than good with the iron. I don't use the lower "perm. press" setting. I use the next one up. I taking it that is too much.

I really like the way they both turned out. Think you should keep going and make them into a quilt. Easily said when you have to sew and I just get to admire!
