Turning Square Corners Into Round Corners - Cool Technique

2 Attachment(s)
I took a class today to learn this technique. The pattern is called Green Tea by Southwind Designs. It's a table runner and each block is a leaf. You can use this technique on any pattern with squares. The first picture shows the leaf before it is "curved", and after it is curved. Pretty cool.

That is really cool. I love the curved look of your leaves. Is it hard to do or learn?
:D :D :D :D

That is really nice.

It was super easy and the pattern had excellent illustrations to go with the directions. The most time consuming part was cutting the strips.

DOTTYMO 11-16-2014 02:54 AM

It is so easy to do and looks fantastic.

PaperPrincess 11-16-2014 05:52 AM

Lovely runner! I have one of her (Annette Ornelas) books. The technique really makes a visual impact.

Tartan 11-16-2014 06:01 AM

Really pretty! I used the same technique to put curves on my Dragonfly-my version tutorial on QB.

#1piecemaker 11-16-2014 06:04 AM

That is so cool! I used a Annette Ornelas pattern to make this table runner. It looks like the same method.

I made this only using the largest block. I did it in greens and reds and it was a perfect table topper for the holiday. I also did it with browns and yellows to replicate a sunflower. The curves really make an impact!

Grandma Bonnie 11-16-2014 07:02 AM

Beautiful!

I bought the pattern at my local quilt store. If you paid for the pattern, the class was free. You can order the pattern online at www.southwindquilts.com.

damaquilts 11-17-2014 07:44 AM

Love the look.. Took me a minute to figure out at least I think I did. I may be wrong , I am a lot. lol .. Looks like the idea behind cathedral windows.

janiesews 11-17-2014 08:11 AM

Good job! Reminds me of doing the 10-minute block and doing the curved stitching. Looks great.

mjhaess 11-17-2014 09:14 AM

Love the look of your table runner..A tutorial would be nice...

coopah 11-17-2014 09:20 AM

The rounded look makes it totally different! Nice!

BerninaGirl 11-17-2014 09:23 AM

Very nice, love your colors.

citruscountyquilter 11-17-2014 01:11 PM

I have done something similar. Since the fold was on the bias it curves back rather easily. I hand stitched mine down but have machine stitched them as well. Very easy to do as long as you have a fold on the bias.

Evelynquilts 11-17-2014 02:10 PM

very pretty :)

ccthomas 11-17-2014 07:57 PM

Nice leaves. Love your color choices.

BrendaK 11-17-2014 11:55 PM

Pretty much same idea......fold a square diagonally, sew into corner, then gently roll back that bias fold......viola? There are books 5 minute quilts. And more 5 minute quilts...I think those are the titles.....same principle, or is it principal(?)---- larger version
