I decided to try the Turning Twenty Again pattern since I had quite a few FQ's saved up and it looked like something that would be quick and easy. I laid them out to iron them and discovered that some of them had gone on a diet while they were sitting in the shelf. I cut them out per the directions and then added 4 more pieces from my stash to fill in the blocks that were missing from the cutting pattern. The pattern said to put them to gether randomly but I just couldn't do it. I didn't know I was so picky but I had to lay them all out on the floor to make sure it looked good. Then I began sewing. When I was finished, I noticed that I had only put two pieces the same next to each other so I can live with that.
Now I have to decide what to do for the border. I learned that I should have read the pattern better and plan for a border when choosing fabrics. Since I used up all my co-ordinating fabrics for the top, now I have to buy something for the outside border. I am thinking a warm brown skinny and then a wider outer autumny print??? Or should I go with a solid or a brick walk pattern? I am open for suggestions. One thing I am not good at is putting colors together which is why I seem to go for the scrappy look. That is just gorgeous. Brown would be beautiful. You have done a wonderful job with this. Thank you for sharing.

would love to see pictures before giving opinion.

I was too quick on my reply. Love the colors.

I really like that. I think youd did a great job with your colors. I love all the Turning 20's....my favorite "go to" patterns.

I don't think it needs a border. Just add backing and binding or use the pillowcase method. It'd look pretty either way though if you decide to put borders on it
|
Love the colors! So Fall-ish. How about a green border?
|
Looks great!!!
|
I think a warm brown skinny border, then a print with the goldish colors in it would look wonderful.

If it were me, I would more than likely go with either a dark golden or warm brown fabric for a small border then maybe a forest green as the binding. You have done a great job - I can't do the random placement either. I may start out that way, then make the changes.

Looks great!

Pretty, love Turning Twenty.

I'm like you, I have a hard time trying to match colors, I love scrappy too. And, this quilt is very nice.
|
Beautiful quilt! I love the colors! You could do it with or without borders! A double border with brown and gold would look nice, as someone else previously suggested.
|
Beautiful. Love all the Fall colors.
|
Great job! I hate it when fabric goes on a diet...lol.
|
For someone who thinks she isn't any good at picking out colors..... You just put 23 or 24 together and they look sorta fabulous! Um, I'm thinking you got it down. So take the top to the store and play with bolts till you see what's right. I'm believing you will KNOW what is right. Trust yourself - though it's always great to ask for our opinions!

Pretty! Just in time for autumn! :)

I am loving all your ideas. Keep them coming.

I would use a brown with some depth, not movement, but a rich, warm brown. Hope that makes sense. It would bring the other colors together and focus the viewer's eyes to the center. Given the beautiful colors you've used, you don't need to add any movement in your borders. I did a Turning 20 with about 3 years of Moda Xmas fabric. It turned out beautifully and I used a rich, red on red print that read as a solid for the border and it really made it into a gorgeous quilt. Just my two cents worth...

Gorgeous quilt! Funny how scrappy always turns out so pretty!
|
I think that is beautiful, I agree dark brown would look good.

Great looking Autumn colors. I think an olive green border would look GREAT! If you have that color, I would make it about a 5" border. If not, I would try for a soft brown tone on tone. You did a nice job on this. I love the turning twenty pattern.

I seldom pick out the border before I finish the top. I have bought fabrics I thought would be perfect but did not look right after the top was put together.
I think a brown and green or rust would look great, it is a beautiful quilt. |
you did a great job. I think too, a warm brown and gold is a good choice.
|
It's beautiful. I would go with the brown and then autumn print border.
|
Love the colors!@ On my Turning Twenty quilt I didn't add any borders and it looks just great. Let us know what you decide. Thanks for sharing.
|
Love the color scheme. I would go with a brown print border and a dark green binding.
|
