Two 1600 quilts I made

Saturday our guilt guild had a workshop to make them. Of course they had to race and I was the 1st one to finish. Although mine is more like a 1932 quilt because I used 48 strips instead of 40.
This is the one I sewed at the workshop. It is 2 of the same jelly rolls I got from Connecting Threads maybe 3 yrs. ago. These are all print.

Then the next morning I got up and made this quilt, again using 48 strips but these are all solid. And I like the white square in between.

They are both great. I really like the bias seams in the first one.

I quilted it with varigated thread and the panto is Whoopsie Daisy, computerized version.
It is something like 69 1/2 x 64".
I LOVE this one and think I may call it Northern Lights.

Wow! You did a fantastic job. Beautiful colors, beautiful work.

Quiltngolfer 04-26-2012 03:59 PM

The quilting really makes it nice. They are both beautiful! I haven't tried one yet, but now I am anxious to try one. Great work! Thanks for sharing.

That is so cool, really like the one with the little white squares & the white border!

bepositive 04-26-2012 04:43 PM

I really love both of them, but the second one with the white squares is my favorite!!! :) I made one a few months ago, but now I want to make another with the white squares!! :) :) Thanks for the idea!

emmy 04-26-2012 05:18 PM

Really like both of your qults, and your idea of running the strips vertically with the square.

momto5 04-26-2012 05:33 PM

Both are very nice!

Mazda 04-26-2012 05:37 PM

Those ate fun quilts. Love both of them!

Jingle 04-26-2012 06:49 PM

Both are beautiful, 2nd one is more so. I liked the white squares, set the colors off.

sharon b 04-26-2012 06:52 PM

Like them both :) Just recently I began seeing the ones with the contrasting squares and really like the looks of them - have to try one :)

grannyoquilting 04-26-2012 06:52 PM

I like them both. A lady in my quilt guild made one in purples and put two borders on hers. It is stunning!!

KatFish 04-26-2012 07:23 PM

Beautiful quilts. I really like the solids. I'm going to have to make one.

Really like both of your quilts also, but the second one is my favorite, really like the white squares. And to think solid fabrics could look this good!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Ann Marie O 04-27-2012 06:21 AM

Haven't made one of these yet but now think I might have to! I really like the one with the white squares in it.

oma66 04-27-2012 07:12 AM

Wonderful quilts. I want to make one like your second quilt with the white squares. I like them both very much, but the second one strikes my fancy and I know someone who would love to have a quilt like this. Thanks for sharing.

fivepaws 04-27-2012 07:24 AM

That is wonderful. I love the white in between the strips. Much more sophisticated looking. I am going to have to try that. I have done a couple of 1600 quilts but they seem to beg for something more. However, yours is the perfect answer. The top one looks like mine.

red-warrior 04-27-2012 07:53 AM

I like the one with the white squares best too! Northern lights suits it!

WTxRed 04-27-2012 08:19 AM

Both pretty - the 2nd is my favorite. Clue me in please - what's a 1600 quilt?

pls1946 04-27-2012 08:32 AM

These are very nice quilts!!

sewmorethings 04-27-2012 08:42 AM

I love them! As everybody knows, I'm having a nervous breakdown trying to figure out an accent for the one I want to make this weekend. They look so fun... & quick! I'm in the mood for quick! Thanks for the inspiration!

It's also called a Jelly Roll Race quilt. There are numerous video tutorials for them online, tho I haven;t seen any printed directions online (tho I wish I could). I love them! Quick & pretty... what else could a gal ask for (besides more hours in a day & calorie-free chocolate!????

I think the addition of the white squares was a great idea! Looks modern. Really like it.

indycatcarol 04-27-2012 07:35 PM

Thank you all for your comments. These are like chips, you can't make just one. LOL!
