Here's the Triple Irish Chain in progress, but I really wanted to show you that a second watercolor floral log cabin has been born! :D
First the TIC.

The plain squares are done!

There are 30.

Don't they look cool this way?? :-)

Nine of the squared blocks were done weeks ago, and here's what I got done today. There are 36 seams to pin in every blasted square! NOT that I'm counting! :|

WFLC next....

What's done....

Still needs pinning...

Love, love, love your green floral! It feels peaceful.
It's so fun seeing how blocks change their look in different layouts.

The first picture is of the squares in the watercolor floral that's for sale, the second photo is of four squares I finished today. (I needed to stop pinning for a bit! )

I love the new design, but I'm getting very critical. I think all the beige only strips will be coming out of the light side options. I like all greenish better. There's one spot I goofed and didn't get light to darker... but these can be practice squares. Each block is decided on individually.

Old squares and new pattern idea

New design in action!!!

I agree b.zang! I saw this fabric in a Mennonite shop twice before I succumbed. I adored it every time, but was trying to use self control. It's so calming. The pattern calls for 60+ squares, but I think I'll make a lap quilt for me and use the rest for baby quilts.

Pam G 01-02-2010 04:08 PM

Beautiful!!

rootyr 01-02-2010 04:13 PM

Oh so very pretty!

mumtoliam 01-02-2010 04:23 PM

WOW - stunning - can't wait to see it completed!

nursie76 01-02-2010 04:25 PM

All of the squares are beautiful!

amma 01-02-2010 04:45 PM

The first one is so calming and pretty :D:D:D
But the second water color really catches my eye with all of those brights :D:D:D

katier825 01-02-2010 04:46 PM

I love that green floral! That Triple Irish Chain will be awesome! I like your idea about the greens for the lights on the log cabin. I will try that when I do mine (someday). Sometimes when I see similar quilts, the beiges look dirty to me.

LovingIzabella 01-02-2010 04:57 PM

Beautiful!
I just have to ask is your new avatar one of your horses and foal?
Hugs
April

barnbum 01-02-2010 05:31 PM

katier--I wanted the lights to emulate the ground between gardens, so the beige works for that, but it looks a big off with the greens. It doesn't blend as well. The one with green leaves and hues of beige are okay, I think. Finding fabrics for the lights in this quilt has been tough! I used up all my favorites in the last one and I can't find good replacements.

Loving Isabella--yes--that photo was taken May 2, I believe. It's of Chloe and her colt, Tucker. I'm headed out now to give them more hay for the night. ;)

Ninnie 01-02-2010 05:34 PM

I love both!! And Iknow all about those pins, but it is a must do for me!!
Love that material!
You always do such great work!!

Love both colors for the log cabin.

LisaT 01-02-2010 06:04 PM

I have to say that I am partial to the first one! I think it is going to be STUNNING!

I have a thing for blue and green together. That was my first quilt in a log cabin.

Jingle 01-02-2010 07:18 PM

I really like the one that says new design under it- it's my favorite, I like all of them.

jljack 01-02-2010 08:02 PM

barnbum 01-03-2010 06:16 AM

Well--I've measured and measured and the new log cabin design just isn't square enough. It's very very close, but before I make 100 of them, I need to fix it. But--I'm not sure where to start. Maybe the middle. Headed to EQ6 to try....

I'm back.

Well--my graphed one measures a perfect square at every point. I just drew it on EQ6 and it seems correct. Must be my strips or seams are off? It's by such a small amount, but it's making me crazy.

Does anyone see something I'm missing?

Eleanor Burns says that if the difference is less than 1/8 inch, it isn't a big deal ... are you ironing between each strip? you must be, or you wouldn't be measuring ... so many variables, you know ... don't be too difficult to please.

BKinCO 01-03-2010 07:45 AM

OH my gosh! These are both so lovely! The green is so serene!!! And I'm loving the options of the watercolors. Can't wait to see them when they are done!

barnbum 01-03-2010 08:04 AM

I found the problem!!! I made two more squares--carefully ironing, trimming and measuring. I'd check for squareness after every two strips and suddenly it was off! It was one strip of light green that was cut at 1 1/8" rather than 1". This explains why only two of the first four were off more--the other two didn't have this fabric in them and were fine. Mystery solved!

Yay!! It's good to know the pattern works. Whew!! :-D

soniboo 01-03-2010 08:14 AM

Problem solved, yay! Both are absolutely beautiful!

April
PS I just love your miniatures! They are darling horses

Shemjo 01-03-2010 02:42 PM

Congratulations on figuring out the problem! Sometimes that can be so frustrating. They are both so pretty. Your colors are calming.

Jim's Gem 01-03-2010 09:29 PM

Beautiful Karla!!! I am looking forward to seeing both quilts when you get them done. Looks like your getting the EQ6 down. I have not had the opportunity to play with mine much. Maybe this week!

mimee4 01-05-2010 07:07 AM

The colors go together beautifully.
